Band 6 - CAMHS Practitioner
Are you enthusiastic about CAMHS and working with young people in crisis? The assertive Outreach Team is based at Southwark Adolescent team. We work closely with the general adolescent team, paediatric Liaison, neurodevelopmental service, schools and other agencies to offer timely and accessible service to young people preventing crisis or working intensively through crisis in the community and at clinic base. It is a rewarding role working with YP, families and multi-agencies at a time where families are confronted with the need to change.
We are seeking a clinician with a good knowledge of child mental health problems, risk assessment and risk management and proven ability to engage and work with families in the clinic and community settings.
Main duties of the job
-To work with age group up to 18 who present with complex mental health problems and have presented to A&E in crisis, and/or involvement is needed to prevent a mental health crisis.
-To undertake CAMHS assessments of young people referred to us in crisis from the Adolescent team, A&E and other teams. It includes stepping up interventions, risk assessments, care planning, care co-ordination of young people who may be under CPA, and delivery of range mental health interventions in the clinic, online, and in a variety of community settings.

We have a commitment to anti-racist work and offer opportunities to build capacity as practitioners to address systemic racism. We have our team skill sharing sessions where we present clinical frameworks and skills to each other. There are various opportunities to develop wider experience and work in different teams. The service is developing to meet the various needs of our clients such as transition into adult services. There are opportunities for training.

Person Specification Qualifications Essential
- First level nursing qualification/registration RMN or RSCN or Doctorate level qualification in Clinical or Counselling Psychology or First level qualification in OT, social work, or equivalent or First level qualification in Art, Drama or Music therapy with related experience in the psychological aspects of caring for children and adolescent with mental health problems/needs, developmental/ learning disability problems.
- All applicants will require a professional training and relevant Clinical experience, including CAMHS ( or clear evidence of transferable skills) in combination with professional registration with one of the following statutory bodies: the Nursing Midwifery Council (NMC) , Health Professional's Council (HPC/ HCPC), Association of Child Psychotherapists (ACP), social work England or The UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) .
- Specialist training in modalities such as CBT, DBT
- Experience of working in a Community or specialist CAMHS multidisciplinary team (A)
- Experience of multi-agency working
- Working knowledge of MHA, MCA and safeguarding children legislation. (A/I)
- Prompt and accurate recording on to electronic notes system (A)
- Experience of working with children and adolescents in specialist settings or schools
- Knowledge and skills in core CAMHS treatment skills, range of interventions and more in-depth knowledge in at least one treatment model.
- Excellent risk assessment and documentation skills. (A/I)
- Knowledge and understanding of issues relating to information sharing and confidentiality (I)
- Understanding of and ability to maintain a safe therapeutic environment. (A/I)
