This is an exciting opportunity to expand our forensic community teams, to recruit a highly skilled, motivated and passionate Band 6 Occupational Therapist, that is looking to be part of our enhanced service provision that is commissioned by the East of England Provider Collaborative.

CPFT are one of six providers of specialist mental health and learning disability care in the East of England, working collaboratively to ensure there is a seamless pathway of care , that is closer to home for the communities that we serve. The Provider Collaborative also works closely with independent sector partners to make improvements to our services and the ways we deliver them.

This enhanced specialist service consists of 2 multi-disciplinary teams, based in Cambridge and Peterborough, which cover the Cambridgeshire and Peterborough population. The service works with adults diagnosed with a mental health condition and/or learning disability who present with a risk of significant harm to others, to achieve optimal management of risk and minimize re-offending.

Within the Provider Collaborative we ensure the service user or parent/carer voice is at the forefront of informing improvements to healthcare, by working with them to identify solutions for change together. We value the experience and expertise of our service user or parent/carer and are committed to involving representatives on our interview panel, where possible to recruit staff of a high calibre who share our values.

Main duties of the job

Working closely with the individual, we produce a tailored care package together that is focused around their personal needs, adopting a compassionate and trauma informed approach to promote relapse prevention and recovery. Enabling individuals to realise their full potential whilst supporting them to continue to live and build meaningful lives in the community.

• For a robust discharge due to the collaborative wrap around service
• To deliver a seamless pathway of care that is centred around the individuals needs

You will be joining an experienced multidisciplinary team of professionals including psychiatrists, psychologists, nurses, support workers and administrators who all share a passion and drive for delivering high quality care and treatment to service users with forensic histories.

The service will offer you in-house training from our experienced team including:

• DBT Skills Training
• CBT for Offenders/Managing Anger
• Introduction to Compassion Focus Therapy in Forensic Services
• Positive Behaviour Support Planning
• Learning Disability Awareness
• Risk Assessment Training

The post will involve working closely with a low secure unit in-reach team to ensure a smooth pathway of care from inpatient to community.

The service runs 7 days a week (8:00am until 8:00pm), excluding bank holidays.

Clinical and Service Specific

• The post holder will demonstrate specialist knowledge and skills and have undertaken appropriate post registration training.
• To provide occupational therapy assessments and interventions underpinned by the Model of Human Occupation and the principles of recovery and enablement.
• To use clinical skills and reasoning to provide interventions to service users with complex needs, working with autonomy and referring to advanced practitioner occupational therapist and senior staff when necessary.
• To apply a high level of understanding of the effects of mental and physical health conditions on occupational performance; providing training and advice on lifestyle changes and adaptions to the service user's social and physical environment.
• To work collaboratively with service users to promote vocational rehabilitation and act as a team resource/specialist in vocational rehabilitation and employment.
• To undertake the delivery of specialist occupational focused interventions including sensory and enabling approaches and reablement.
• To facilitate the development of sensory modulation strategies to support service users with emotional and physiological regulation difficulties.
• To ensure that all care planning will involve the service user and where appropriate the carer, collaboratively identifying, pursuing and reviewing goals in the context of care planning.
• To plan and implement specialist individual and /or group interventions collaboratively, to enable service users to achieve valued goals and desired occupational performanceoutcomes.
• To promote social inclusion and physical and mental well-being using evidence based practice.
• To promote the added value of occupational therapy and act as an ambassador for the profession within the team.

• To interpret assessments, evaluating the impact of illness, disability or environmental factors on the individual's ability to carry out his or her desired activities and occupations.
• To compile occupational therapy reports for referring agents and other healthcare professionals involved in the service user care.
• To record information required for statistical purposes in an accurate and timely manner.
• To provide clinical supervision to band 5 occupational therapy colleagues and support workers (e.g.OTAs) where appropriate.
• To act as preceptorship supervisor to newly qualified occupational therapists.
• To supervise OT students on practice placement.
• To demonstrate high level communication skills.
• To utilise highly developed interpersonal skills including specific skills to facilitate effective communication when there are barriers to understanding e.g. sensory or cognitive impairment or in a hostile, antagonistic of highly emotive situation.
• To assist with the recruitment and selection process within the service area.
• To provide clinical interventions to the individual in their own home and community settings.

Person Specification Education / Qualifications Essential

• Degree/Diploma in Occupational Therapy
• Current registration with HCPC (Health & Care Professions Council)
• Undertaken placement educator training or have a willingness to undertake this
• Evidence of continuing professional development

Experience Essential

• Proven post-professional qualification experience.
• Experience of working in a mental health/learning disability setting.
• Experience of multidisciplinary working.
• Experience in dealing with difficult situations.
• Experience of risk assessment and risk management.

Skills & Abilities Essential

• Ability to establish therapeutic relationships with patients showing a range of challenging behaviours.
• Good communication and assertiveness skills including report writing for CPA and ADL reports
• Strong collaborative approach to MDT working.
• An ability to maintain professional boundaries.
• Able to confidently plan and implement a variety of individual and group Occupational Therapy interventions.
• An interest in and understanding of the fundamental principles of sensory modulation.
