I'm Lorna, until recently, I was the Ward Manager of our Mulberry 2 ward. I am now the Modern Matron across our 3 Acute Adult Inpatient Wards. I am excited to advertise our new Ward Manager position for our 16-bed mixed Adult Inpatient Recovery Ward (Mulberry 3) on our Fulbourn site.
Being a Ward Manager isn't for everyone, but I have loved it. Unlike many management roles, it allows you to remain in a clinical setting with daily engagement and interaction with patients. I also loved working with my team to support their development and new ideas. Being Ward Manager, you also have the autonomy to introduce new innovations and improvements.
Our Recovery Ward is part of our innovative and ambitious model of care, known as the 3-3-3 model. Our three wards work collaboratively to enable patients to access the right care at the right time. We have our Acute Assessment Unit (Mulberry 1), where patients stay up to 3 days, our Treatment ward (Mulberry 2), where patients stay up to 3 weeks and our Recovery Unit (Mulberry 3), where patients stay up to 3 months.
Mulberry 3 has recently undergone an interior renovation and we are excited to relaunch the ward. In this role you will have a unique opportunity, should you be successful, to shape and transform the day-to-day operation and provision of care on our Recovery Ward.
Please get in touch if you are interested in joining us on our journey.
Main duties of the job
As ward manager clear communication and relationship building are key skills. We will need you to build relationships with our community and partner services to support patients in their move back to the community, work with our new Consultant Psychiatrist to establish new ways of working, support your colleagues on Mulberry 1 & 2 to introduce innovation and most importantly, to lead and develop your new team.
You are the centre of the team and will need to be the glue holding the MDT together. Your team will expect you to provide expert advice, ensure high-quality student placements, manage the roster effectively and enhance the service to support the delivery of outstanding care.
Finally, you will be responsible for the provision of high-quality care on the ward. We will look to you to ensure the correct support is provided for patients and their families/carers, the ward is running safely and smoothly, research and innovation is encouraged and supported and the ward is governed appropriately.
