I'm Richard and I am the Clinical Nurse Specialist on Mulberry 2. I will be working closely with you, if you are successful, as our Adult Inpatient wards are linked by the 3-3-3 model of care. I work in the middle part of the model in our Treatment Ward, and you will be working as our Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) on our Recovery Ward, Mulberry 3.

Our CNS posts are a development opportunity designed to enable experienced nursing colleagues to make a professional advancement without stepping away from their clinical work. I have loved working in this post because I've had opportunity to shape this role based on my interests and area of expertise. For example, I have supported the development of our clinical environments to promote patient engagement alongside developing an in house teaching programme to continuously support staff progression and enhance patient experience.

As a CNS you are expected to work a combination of clinical shifts alongside your 2 leadership days each week. You will be working to develop and enhance the clinical practice to support our patients in their recovery.

We work alongside the ward managers, who support the operational management of the ward, to ensure the best care possible is provided for our patients. For this reason, we are expected to work clinical shifts (including on weekend per month) to enable us to identify and address areas for development and enhancement.

If you want to find out more about this role, get in touch.

Main duties of the job

As CNS you will be a clinical leader who will ensure patients receive the highest standard of clinical care. You will be working in partnership with the multidisciplinary team and will embed evidence based clinical practice within your team. To do so you will need to facilitate and lead education and training sessions as well as skills development sessions for your nursing colleagues.

You will provide inspirational specialist nursing leadership within the team, including strengthening and developing assessment approaches and nursing interventions.

You will also be responsible for contributing to and leading the ongoing development of clinical practice standards of care within the service including the development of policies, procedures, protocols, and guidelines. We will need you to actively initiate and participate in clinical activity and audits within their specialist area.

As this is a senior post, if you are successful, you will need to demonstrate your skills in and knowledge of managing groups and teams. If you are successful in securing an interview, we will work with you to identify your area clinical skill/interest, which will then provide the basis for your specialist work once in the service.
