CAMHS Practitioner in Specialist team for children in care

Our team are recruiting a new colleague to join our lively, committed, friendly and supportive CAMHS multi-disciplinary team. We would welcome your energy and enthusiasm and hope you have had some experience in CAMHS. You will have an interest in working with children and young people who have endured adversity, maltreatment and trauma. We are seeking someone with a good therapeutic skill set, which can be developed further (with good training opportunities) in this therapy focussed setting. The rest of the team are passionate about providing an excellent service to our children and young people in LA care.

Carelink is a specialist multi-disciplinary Tier 3 mental health team, working in close partnership with Southwark Social Care and Child Health.

Main duties of the job

The post-holder will undertake CAMHS assessments of children and young people up to age 18 with a formulation and diagnosis, and recommendations for treatment. Also offer treatment packages to C&YP and support to their carers and/or adoptive parents

The post-holder will have a therapeutic caseload, offering therapy to Looked After and Adopted Children with complex needs including experience of complex trauma and attachment difficulties. You will also be working with their parents/ carers. You will have the ability to deliver a range of interventions for children and young people. Close working relationships with members of the team and partnership agencies e.g. Children's Social Care, Child Health, Education and others is essential. You must be qualified in an appropriate mental health professional modality and have current registration with the relevant professional body (detailed in person specification).

You must demonstrate an interest in multi-agency and multi-disciplinary work and be familiar with evidence-based practice. There are excellent opportunities in our NHS Trust for CPD, in-service teaching and specialist supervision. Carelink forms part of Southwark CAMHS, with good links with a range of other specialist teams and services for children and families across the borough, you must be able to work independently and have good clinical/therapeutic and case management skills.

All applicants will require a professional training and relevant CAMHS experience in combination with professional registrationwith one of the following statutory bodies: the Nursing Midwifery Council (NMC) , Health & Care Professional's Council (HPC/HCPC),Association of Child Psychotherapists (ACP), The UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP), or British Association of Counselling andPsychotherapy (BACP)

Assessed supervised clinical experience working with children andadolescents with mental health problems/needs or clear evidence of transferable skills

Working in collaboration with supervisor, service user, carers and MDT in assessing needs, planning and implementing care.

Taking responsibility for care delivery in a specific area and maintaining a safe therapeutic environment.

A good understanding and some experience of the following: Group,individual and family work, multidisciplinary work, clinical governance and audit and the process of clinical supervision in CAMHS.

Assessment of risk and management of risk factors.

The principles of clinical governance and practice.

Ability to work therapeutically with the client group, using a range of therapeutic interventions.

Ability to take on new concepts/forward thinking.

Ability to work within a changing environment. Ability to be reflective in therapeutic practice and adapt practice from this reflection.

Demonstrate an ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Person Specification Qualifications Essential
  • First level nursing qualification/registration RMN or RSCN or HV or Doctorate level qualification in Clinical or Counselling Psychology or First level qualification in OT, social work, or equivalent or First level qualification in art, play, drama therapy with related experience in the psychological aspects of caring for children and adolescent with mental health problems/needs, developmental/ learning disability problems.
