Salford mental health service are looking for an enthusiastic Community Psychiatry consultant colleague.
Salford psychiatry is part of Greater Manchester Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust, which came into being in January 2017 and followed the acquisition of Manchester Mental Health and Social Care NHS Trust by Greater Manchester West Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust
The Trust provides a wide range of local services to Manchester, Bolton, Salford and Trafford residents. In addition, the Trust provides a number of specialist and secure mental health services supporting Greater Manchester, the North West and beyond. This means that we are well supported by specialist services and have multiple opportunities to develop special interests in sub specialities and research competencies.
The Chief Executive of the Trust is Neil Thwaite. The Chair is Mr Rupert Nichols. The Medical Director is Dr Alice Seabourne and Dr Chris Daly is the Deputy Medical Director. There is a Leadership development program for new consultants who join the Trust.
This is a full time appointment for a consultant to work in the Cromwell House community mental health team in Salford. This team provides mental health input for patients in the central Salford area.
Main duties of the job
Clinical role
- Undertake assessments of referrals/ admissions to the service
- Diagnose and formulate management plans in complex presentations.
- Provide management in treatment resistant and complex presentations
- Assessment and management of risk including of vulnerability, suicide risk, risks to health and safety and risk of harm to others.
- Preparation of Mental Health Review Tribunal and Managers' Hearings reports and attendance at subsequent hearings.
- Work in a collaborative way with multidisciplinary teams including external partners.
- Work in partnership with psychiatrists from partner providers such as Forensic and Rehabilitation Psychiatrists.
Leadership role
- Lead clinical decision making in the multidisciplinary team to ensure the delivery of high quality care
- Develop service clinical priorities in line with national and professional guidance and standards
- Engage with service transformation programmes including attendance at Consultant meetings for their service and directorate.
Educational role
- Provide clinical supervision for trainees in gaining core psychiatric experience
- Provide clinical supervision for psychiatric trainees in achieving competencies in core general psychiatry

Person Specification Qualifications Essential
- MB BS or equivalent medical qualification
- Fully registered with the GMC with a license to practice at the time of appointment
- Included on the GMC Specialist Register OR within six months.
- Approved clinician status OR able to achieve within 3 months of appointment
- Approved under S12 OR able to achieve with 3 months of appointment
- Excellent clinical skills using bio-psycho-social perspective and wide medical knowledge
