The Lambeth Perinatal Mental Health Team provides a Monday to Friday, 9-5 service to service users residing within the Borough of Southwark / Lambeth offering assessment, intervention and treatment to women who suffer from moderate to severe mental health disorders in the perinatal period.

Main duties of the job

We are seeking to recruit an enthusiastic, energetic and clinically confident Community Psychiatric Nurse to join our Lambeth Perinatal Mental Health Team due to further expansion of the Perinatal Community services.

You will have experience of general adult inpatient, Mother and Baby inpatient unit, community mental health services or CAMHS. You will also have experience of working with women who suffer from moderate to severe mental illness in the perinatal period.

You will be familiar with Perinatal community standards, governance and performance structures and confident in partnership work with other agencies such as Children and Family Social Services, Midwifery and Obstetric teams, CMHTs, Health Visitors and the Voluntary sector.

Working closely with your colleagues in PMHT's, you will receive support and be part of the on-going Perinatal workforce training within SLaM and London wide. In addition, you will be partof the Pan London Community Perinatal Nurses network. This is a great opportunity to supervise juniorstaff, student nurses as well asimplementing new ways of working using best practice and NICE guidelines.

Job description Job responsibilities

To work as an autonomous Perinatal Community Nurse with a defined caseload. Ensuring the ongoing assessment of adults within the service and providing a range of needs-led interventions andcare.To work in consultation with other professionals making known concerns regarding safeguarding children and safeguarding adults to the appropriate and responsible services.To aid the identification and treatment for the mental health needs of pregnant women and those with infants up to one year old.To work in collaboration with both colleagues from generic psychiatric services and staff from other perinatal services.To provide written information for all perinatal referrals received into the team to the referrers.To provide a consultation and liaison service for other health care professionals including those outside of the Trust who are working with women who are pregnant or have infants up to a year old.

Person Specification Qualifications Essential
  • RMN with current NMC registration and revalidation.
  • Evidence of ENB 998 or equivalent
Desirable
  • Evidence of continuing professional development e.g. relevant training
Knowledge and Skills Essential
  • Experience of working in an Inpatient or community setting
  • Experience of working with Patients with severe and enduring mental health problems
  • Understanding of Maternal Mental illness
  • Proven experience of safeguarding children and communicating with children and families social services
  • Different Interventions for patients with Perinatal Mental Health illness
Desirable
  • Use of the use of evidence-based interventions relating to the care of service users with severe and enduring mental health problems
