Are you a Consultant Psychiatrist looking for your next role as a dynamic clinical leader in Learning Disabilities Psychiatry? Are you dedicated and passionate about delivering outstanding mental health services?

We are looking for a dedicated Consultant who shares our vision for outstanding mental health care to adults with a learning disability, to provide psychiatric care and expertise to people resident in West Wiltshire.

You will work as part of a team with 2 Consultant Psychiatrists in Wiltshire. The service sits within a wider Directorate of 9 Psychiatrists, specialising in Intellectual Disability.

This is a full time community-based post with flexibility to the timetable to suit the work-life needs of suitable candidates looking for a particular job-plan.

Main duties of the job

You will work closely with members of the multidisciplinary team to Facilitate access to universal services and partner providers through collaborative working

You will be a local champion for people with learning disabilities, and facilitate developing skills in health and social care staff working with adults with learning disabilities and autism.

The LD consultant group has a reputation for being a close knit group who actively support each other and whom work positively with service managers. The group meets monthly to ensure continuous improvement of our services and twice a month for academic meetings. The post has strong links with local generic psychiatry networks too

Person Specification Qualifications Essential
  • MB BS or equivalent medical qualification
Desirable
  • Relevant Higher Degree e.g MD,PHD,Msc or other additional clinical qualifications
  • MRCPsych OR MRCPsych equivalent approved by the Royal College of Psychiatrists.
Eligibility Essential
  • Fully registered with the GMC with a licence to practise at the time of appointment
  • Included on the GMC Specialist Register OR within six months of gaining CCT
  • Approved clinician status OR able to achieve within 3 months of appointment
  • Approved under S12 OR able to achieve with 3 months of appointment
Desirable
  • CCT in Learning Disability Psychiatry
Experience Essential
  • Experience of assessing and treating LD patients in an inpatient and community setting.
Personal Skills Essential
  • To possess leadership skills and be able to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team.
  • Ability to manage own time, workload and prioritise clinical work
  • Able to demonstrate excellent communication skills, in order to effectively work with patients, carers and staff.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
Clinical Skills Essential
  • Ability to assess and treat psychiatric problems in Adults with Learning Disabilities and to deal with crisis situations.
Knowledge Essential
  • Understanding of the management skills required to function successfully as a Consultant.
  • Knowledge of current government policies in Learning Disabilities.
Teaching Essential
  • Commitment to and experience of undergraduate and postgraduate learning and teaching.
  • Understand principles of teaching.
Research and Audit Essential
  • Experience or involvement in a research project and publication.
  • Experience of carrying out an audit project.
Management Essential
  • Evidence of management/leadership skills training.
Other Essential
  • Independently mobile and willing to travel
