Would you like to work for a supportive, person - centred service that offers multiple opportunities for professional training and development and offers an excellent service to clients?

If so, an exciting opportunity has arisen for a Community Mental Health Nurse to join the North Staffordshire Wellbeing Service (Improving Access to Psychological Therapies) to provide psychological assessment and treatment for clients with a wide range of mental health problems that are suitable for treatment within primary care.

We are a friendly and welcoming NHS service in North Staffordshire and we offer assessment and treatment for the population of Newcastle under Lyme and the North Staffordshire Moorlands locality.

We value our team members and have regular monthly team meetings and team days. This gives our staff the opportunity to meet with colleagues and to support each other. We also have staff wellbeing champions within the service that strive to support this ethos that underpins the service.

Post-holders will receive specialist in-house clinical skills training to provide structured, problem-focused Cognitive Behavioural Assessments, and to explain evidence-based models of psychological therapies for all specific anxiety disorders and depression in adherence with NICE guidelines.

Main duties of the job

As a Community Mental Health Nurse, you will provide a central role in supporting the IAPT service by screening new referrals via our self-referral telephone helpline / web referral facility, delivering assessments, making decisions on suitability/allocation, providing psycho-education and signposting/referring clients to partner services as appropriate.

The post-holder will work alongside IAPT psychological therapists, and aside from delivering IAPT assessments, will carry a caseload of clients for treatment/support who do not meet the criteria for IAPT psychological treatment, but whose needs can be managed in primary care. There is a comprehensive care pathway within the service for these clients that has a focus upon Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT). The Community Mental Health Nurses are encouraged to undertake basic and advanced training for this therapy and current team members offer this intervention regularly to their clients. There are other training opportunities available for team members who have an interest in developing other evidence based therapeutic interventions in primary care mental health.

About us

We are a multidisciplinary team consisting of CBT Therapists, Psychological Wellbeing Practitioners, Interpersonal Therapists, Counsellors and Community Mental Health Nurses. We are committed to staff development, and these posts offer great opportunity for ambitious individuals looking to further their careers within an excellent IAPT service, covering some of the most beautiful countryside of the Peak District National Park.

As the service is based in Newcastle-under-Lyme and the wide geographical area of North Staffordshire, including the Leek Moorlands, some travel between sites is required, therefore, a driving license is advantageous.

This is a permanent full-time post within the North Staffordshire Wellbeing Service.
