Locum Approved for Service (LAS) Core Trainee in Learning Disabilities based at Islington Learning Disabilities Partnership.

We are looking for an enthusiastic doctor to join our community servics at the level of a core trainee (LAS) in psychiatry. The post may suit a variety of doctors, but may particularly suit doctors considering a career in psychiatry.

The Islington Learning Disabilities Psychiatry service is part of the Islington Learning Disabilities Partnership (ILDP) healthcare team. ILDP is a fully integrated adult social and health care team providing services for adults with Learning Disabilities living in the Borough of Islington. It is a multidisciplinary service and offers specialist assessment and treatment of mental health problems in people with learning disabilities. It also provides liaison, education and support to colleagues in generic mental health services who are in contact with people with learning disabilities (including the crisis team, personality disorder service and inpatient services). Since 2015, the service has implemented processes in keeping with NHSE Transforming Care Agenda which includes proactive approaches to prevent hospital admissions and close working with LD commissioners.

Main duties of the job

You will work closely with a range of members of the multidisciplinary team including nurses, psychologists, occupational therapists and social workers.

At the beginning of the post we will determine the level of clinical supervision required; as a guideline, if you are a core trainee new to psychiatry, it is mandatory for you to discuss all patient management decisions that you make, prior to their being enacted. All clinical correspondence is supervised by the Consultant Psychiatrist.

Supervision will be provided by the ward consultants. There is also consultant availability on the phone/email as needed. Outside those hours, the trainee receives support from the ST and consultant on call as needed. At the beginning of the post the trainer will determine the level of clinical supervision required. As a guideline, for core trainees who are new to psychiatry, it is mandatory for you to discuss all patient management decisions that you make, prior to their being enacted.

The post holder will have the opportunity to join the out of hours on call rota covering either the Whittington, UCH or Royal Free Hospital A&Es and associated services. This is an optional component of the job, subject to candidate's interest.
