An exciting developmental opportunity has arisen for a band 6 Occupational Therapist within the East Lancashire Rapid Intervention and Treatment Team.

The post is to cover maternity leave for 6 months.

This team fulfils the functions of Home Treatment and Care Home Liaison. The team operates 7 days a week 8:00am to 8:00pm and you will require the ability to work flexibly within these hours.

We are looking for an Occupational Therapist that has a genuine interest in Older Adult Mental Health. We need an enthusiastic, motivated, resourceful and forward thinking therapist to join this multi-disciplinary service. You must be an Occupational Therapist, with 2 years post registration experience, with at least 1 year working with patients who have acute mental health problems. You must have knowledge of current best practice in community mental health and awareness of relevant government directives and legislation.

The post holder will provide a variety of assessment and interventions, to service users across East Lancashire.

You will have the responsibility of care co-ordinating the needs of a number of service users utilising your skills as an Occupational Therapist.

A visit to meet staff is welcomed and recommended.

Main duties of the job

The post holder supports the delivery of the community services through the provision of the assessment treatment, planning and delivery of evidence based occupational therapy interventions.

Having substantial experience, specialist interest, and expertise in mental health occupational therapy, the post holder will use their deep understanding of the relationship between occupation and mental health to provide occupational therapy in order to maintain, restore or create a match beneficial to the individual between the abilities of the person.

The post holder will deliver a range of individual and/or group interventions drawn from relevant frames of reference, demonstrating sophisticated clinical reasoning skills. They will prioritise planning and delivering interventions for people whose mental health problems have a marked impact on their occupational functioning and who have complex occupational needs.

As an emergent leader and skillful communicator, the post holder will liaise and negotiate across service boundaries and in varied settings. They are research aware, and use evidence to support and develop practice. The post holder will provide regular fieldwork opportunities for occupational therapy undergraduates, and contribute to the learning of other team members or students from other disciplines.

Person Specification Qualifications Essential
  • Diploma/BSC (Hons) in Occupational Therapy (OT)
  • State registered with Health and Care Professions Council.
  • Post Graduate training relevant to mental health work in appropriate speciality
Knowledge Essential
  • Detailed knowledge of how mental health problems impact on occupational performance and how occupational therapy theory informs practice within mental health settings
  • Knowledge of current best practice in inpatient mental health and awareness of relevant government directives and legislation
  • Specialist knowledge and application of OT assessments and interventions using expert level clinical reasoning.
Experience Essential
  • 2 years post registration experience with at least 1 years in mental health
  • Use of evidence-based practice
  • Extensive clinical experiences including individual and group work in mental health specialities
