Following the existing post holder leaving to take on a promotional post, we have an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic Clinical or Counselling Psychologist to join our supportive and highly skilled team of psychologists working in the Epping Forest Adult Community Mental Health Services in the West Essex area of the EPUT based at Loughton (Essex). Attached to this post is up to£6000 of CPD funding(terms and conditions apply). This post would suit someone with interest in developing their skills and knowledge of working relationally with complex presentations and the team and there might be an opportunity to join an existing CAT supervision group.

We welcome applications from both experienced Psychologists, and those who are either recently qualified or due to qualify soon who may be appointed at a band 7 on a Preceptorship basis. If the successful candidate has an intermediate level training in systemic therapy, we might be able to support them to complete the training; and they will be welcome to join the existing, newly formed Family Therapy Clinic.

Main duties of the job

Working alongside other experienced psychologists, the successful applicant will be responsible for assessing and formulating service users presenting with complex needs, and planning, delivering and evaluating interventions. You will promote social inclusion and empower service users within their mental health recovery and in maintaining their social systems. You will also provide consultation and training for staff and others, and placement and supervision for trainee(s), assistant(s), and volunteer(s).

Team Psychologists work within a non-waiting list model employing a trauma-informed consultation approach to support MDT colleagues to actively engage clients in safety and stabilisation work to enable them to make effective use of more formal psychological interventions/therapies.

This post holder will be working largely with the Epping Forest Specialist Mental Health Service based at Loughton. However, some flexibility is needed, and working in other areas may be required as part of the role.

About us

The successful applicant will join our professional team of psychologists working in Adult Community Mental Health Services in the North-West Essex area of Essex Partnership University Trust. The Psychology service currently comprises of approximately seven whole time equivalent Psychologists and three Assistants, together with clinical and counselling psychology trainees and volunteers. We also have close links with colleagues locally working in the 18 - 25's Psychology Service, Specialist Dementia & Frailty, Perinatal, Eating Disorders, Liaison, Urgent Community Care and In Patient settings. Within the service, psychologists have specialist skills and training in variety of areas and approaches, including Autism Spectrum Conditions, CAT, CBT, CBTp, DBT, EMDR, Schema Therapy and Trauma-Informed approaches. Specialist external supervision is provided in several of these modalities, and CPD is both strongly supported and actively encouraged.

Clinical:

• To work as an integral member of the Adult Community Psychology Service in West Essex, being primarily based within the Epping Forest locality Specialist Community Mental Health Service (MDT); travel to other Trust locations will be required.
• To provide highly specialist, detailed psychological assessments of service users, requiring interpretation and integration of complex data from a variety of sources (including psychological and neuropsychological tests, self-report measures, rating scales, direct and indirect observations and semi-structured interviews with clients, carers and others involved in service users care). The post-holder will also be responsible for the safe use of any equipment used during assessments (e.g. test batteries).
• To conduct risk assessment and risk management of service users and of the potential hazards in the service users environment, and to provide advice to other professions on psychological aspects of risk assessment and risk management, including Safeguarding.
• To draw upon complex assessment material to provide verbal and written formulations that aid management of and/or evidence based clinical interventions for service users presenting with highly complex problems, their families and carers, and other professionals.
• To formulate and deliver plans for the formal psychological treatment and/or management of service users mental health problems, based upon an appropriate conceptual framework of the service users problems, and to practice within the context of evidence based approaches and the overall therapeutic approach/ philosophy of the service.
• To be responsible for planning, organising, setting up and delivering evidence based group psychological interventions; to liaise with other professionals about the progress of service users attending group intervention(s); to plan and carry out the clinical evaluation of group interventions and to feedback outcomes to senior colleagues and managers.
• To plan, manage and prioritise own caseload
• To employ a trauma-informed consultation model to facilitate a stepped care approach to providing psychologically informed interventions and to support management of psychology and team caseloads within a non-waiting list service.
• To proactively work with service users, carers and ward staff to ensure access to the most appropriate care and to facilitate discharge as appropriate.
• To attend MDT meetings to provide guidance, advice, consultation and contribute to clinical discussion about services users of the teams.
• Provide education and support to develop service users understanding of mental illness.

Person Specification Qualifications Essential

• Post graduate doctoral level training in clinical or counselling psychology

Desirable

• Training in clinical supervision
• Post-doctoral qualifications in DBT/CBT/CAT/Schema Therapy/CBTp or other evidence based models
• Intermidiate level training in systemic therapy

Work Experience and Attainment Essential

• Significant proven experience of specialist psychological assessment and treatment of clients across the full range of care settings
• Experience in conducting risk assessments of the individual, his/her family, and the environment/ circumstances.
• Experience in advising on care and management of cases on the basis of risk assessment
• Experience of providing clinical leadership, supervision and performance management to lower-banded staff and trainees
• Significant experince of working in NHS settings
• Experince of wokring with clients presenting with complex and enduring MH difficulties

Desirable

• Experience in running groups and interventions for service users with psychosis
• Experience of running groups and interventions for service users with personality disorders
• Experience of acting as a Lead Practitioner in highly complex cases
