An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 6 Speech and Language Therapist to join the Speech and Language Therapy team in Carlisle and Eden. This is full time permanent position providing a Speech and Language Therapy service to adults with a variety of communication and swallowing disorders
This post is a mixed acute and community post working on the acute wards in Cumberland Infirmary Carlisle and across Carlisle and Eden community. The successful candidate will be expected to travel across North Cumbria and therefore being able to drive is essential for this post.
You will be working in a small friendly team with well established supervision and training opportunities. Full support will be given to complete dysphagia competencies.

Regular lone working will be required within the scope of practice with training, regular supervision and support from the Speech and Language Therapy team. This post will involve working face to face with patients in a multiple of locations and also indirectly via telephone and telemedicine platforms

Person Specification Knowledge Essential
- Knowledge of a broad range of assessment tools relevant to the client group
- In depth knowledge of a range of appropriate therapeutic interventions (relevant to a diverse client group) and an ability to compare and contrast relative benefits
- Working knowledge of assessment and therapy materials, including alternative communication strategies.
- Awareness of the standards of clinical record keeping
- Evidence of clinical experience of working with adult patients with a variety of communication difficulties
- Evidence of clinical experience of working with adult patients with swallowing difficulties
- Some knowledge of current national and local strategies, clinical guidelines, policy drivers and issues relating to provision for adults with a diverse and complex range of communication and swallowing difficulties.
- Full driving licence.
- Degree or equivalent qualification in Speech and Language Therapy approved by the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists (RCSLT).
- Registered with HCPC
- On-going membership with the RCSLT
- Ability to manage own time, prioritise tasks and work independently under pressure.
- Ability to manage a caseload within a large rural area in a variety of settings
- Excellent auditory, perceptual and observational skills.
- Excellent analytical and judgement skills
- Ability to use highly developed communication skills in a range of challenging environments and contexts
