An exciting opportunity has become available for a Band 6 Mental Health Occupational therapist, to join our fantastic trust.

We are seeking a full time Band 6 Occupational Therapist to work as part of the OT team within The Older Person's Assessment Service(TOPAS)

TOPAS is a 16-bedded en-suite unit, staffed by qualified psychiatric nurses, Occupational therapists, Physio therapists and healthcare assistants. The service provides assessment and treatment predominately for older people who have complex or acute mental health needs. The service supports people to return to independent living wherever possible.

Main duties of the job

The post offers an excellent opportunity to develop clinical leadership expertise, and has scope for personal and professional development within a highly professional and supportive environment.

The vacancy allows for a range of competencies as identified within the AFC Knowledge and skills framework, as well as a range of development opportunities within the area of mental health practice.

You will need to be a motivated and flexible team player with excellent communication skills. You will hold a current registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).

Job description Job responsibilities

The post holder will be responsible for the assessment of patient need and the development, implementation and evaluation of Occupational Therapy treatment and programmes of care, acting as a clinical team leader.

The post holder will take the lead with other senior staff in planning a high quality programme of therapeutic and occupational activities for acute patient care and be involved in the delivery of these.

To educate, supervise and teach qualified and unqualified staff, students, patients and relatives.

Person Specification Qualifications Essential
  • Diploma/Degree in Occupational Therapy
  • Health Professional Council Registered Occupational Therapist
  • Student supervision/mentoring qualification
Experience Essential
  • Varied clinical approaches and specialist clinical skills developed over time.
  • Experience and competence in providing short term individual and group treatments.
Desirable
  • At least three years post registration experience in mental health.
Knowledge Essential
  • In depth knowledge of models of care and expertise in professional approaches.
  • Good working knowledge of Mental Health Act and CPA
  • Good knowledge of recent legislation
