We are looking for qualified Clinical Associate Psychologist with the passion, skills and determination to help support our Inpatient and Urgent Care Service, in the east of the county.
Clinical Associate Psychologists are key members of our team who offer psychological assessment and formulation, and provide brief and short-term interventions for people who are either admitted to acute adult mental health wards, or are working with the Home Treatment Teams (previously known as crisis teams). You will work under the supervision of a Practitioner Psychologist.
The Adult Acute Ward Teams and Home Treatment Teams are multidisciplinary teams of Nurses, Doctors, Occupational Therapists and Activities Coordinators, Social Workers, Support Workers or Health Care Assistants, Peer Support Workers, and Psychology. The teams work together to consider the best intervention for a particular person at a particular time, and psychology is a valuable part of this care. You will contribute to teaching and staff wellbeing.
There is a wider network of CAPs other Psychologists and Psychological Therapists across Somerset NHS Foundation Trust which you will be part of.
Main duties of the job
Contributing a psychological perspective to the multi-disciplinary teams.
Assessment, formulation and planning of interventions. Delivery of brief and short interventions, both group and individual.
Development and delivery of training for multi-disciplinary colleagues. Supporting staff wellbeing.
Being an active member of the inpatient and urgent care psychology team.
Contributing to projects and service development initiatives.

Person Specification Qualifications Essential
- Masters in Clinical Associate Psychology
- Membership of the British Psychological Society for professional regulation.
- Further substantial training in an evidence based psychological intervention.
- Knowledge of therapeutic basis of clinical psychology as applied to adult mental health.
- Knowledge and skills in risk assessment and management.
- Excellent communication skills, especially in clinical contexts.
- Knowledge of the application of psychological approaches to inpatient and urgent care.
- Experience of working in adult mental health in the NHS.
- Experience of delivering evidence based psychological interventions.
- Experience of psychological assessment and formulation leading to recommendations.
- Experience of working in inpatient and urgent care.
- Experience of working in other mental health contexts, e.g. charities, voluntary agencies, or other areas of mental health e.g. later life.
- Experience of teaching multi-disciplinary teams.
- Trauma informed, compassionate and professional.
- The ability to reflect on and learn from experience.
