The successful candidate will have a choice of area to work. Each area has specific skills that are focused on the work they do. However patient assessment, care planning and review, discharge planning, liaison with multidisciplinary services and accurate and timely discharge planning are all commonplace across all areas of work

Admissions - fast paced large patient turnaround through daily multidisciplinary assessment and safe discharge planning. Patient stay between 7 and 10 days consistently (14 beds)

Treatment - more specific care planning patient needs require further assessment and clear treatment plans. For patients whose recovery takes longer with more historical diagnosis and generally known to services. Likely to be care coordinated by community services. multidisciplinary review weekly. More complex discharge planning (14 beds)

Psychiatric intensive care - Our most challenging environment with more intense mental health difficulties. Higher staff to patient ratio. Based on creating low stimulus area and deescalation. Has self contained extra care area used by individual patients focus is to induce calm and relaxed surroundings (6 beds).

Main duties of the job

An exciting opportunity has arisen for band 5 registered mental health nurses to work in a busy and challenging inpatient environment. There are a number of full time and permanent posts available which are based across our unit on a number of speciality wards. This includes Admissions / assessment, treatment, and our Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) . The successful candidates would have an understanding of how the inpatient unit functions and how each of the individual wards operate and relate to each other and alternative departments within the mental health directorate . You will need to demonstrate a genuine interest and enthusiasm for caring for people with mental health difficulties. It would be an advantage to have experience in inpatient mental health care as they may on times be the nurse in charge of the ward. However we are also very interested in new graduates and assisting them with their professional development.This is a real opportunity to become part of cohesive, supportive and highly functioning teams. You will take a key role in the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of care in all specialities.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.
