If so, you should apply for this fixed-term role as advanced specialist pharmacist to our Perinatal and CAMHS services, while the current post-holder is on maternity leave.

The successful candidate(s) will be highly motivated with good communication skills and a keen interest in specialist areas of mental health who derive satisfaction from developing both the service and pharmacy colleagues. The applicants should be able to work well both in a team and autonomously. Depending on applications received and if this option is optimal for the needs of the service, we may consider a job share for this role.

The pharmacist will be part of a vibrant, expanding team. Building on the excellent pharmacy service with bases in the five main Trust sites, the team includes pharmacists dedicated to OPMHS, CAMHS, perinatal and the MINT Teams as well as the Crisis teams. There is a team focus on growth and development, including Clinical Diplomas, non-medical prescribing qualifications, consultant pharmacist accreditation and writing articles and posters for publication.

Main duties of the job

Within the Perinatal service, the successful candidate(s) will work with MDT colleagues to:
  • Complete in-depth medication optimisation/reviews, which include researching the most recent clinical evidence on use of medicines during pregnancy and breastfeeding
  • Provide medicines information, advice and education to service users, carers and staff
  • Build on the work of the current post-holder to develop the service, for example the pre-conception clinic
  • Contribute to clinical governance within the Perinatal servic

Within the CAMHS service, the successful candidate(s) will work with the other Advanced Specialist CAMHS pharmacist and MDT colleagues to:
  • Complete in-depth medication optimisation/reviews with the young people, e.g. for ADHD, for young people with psychosis and/or affective disorders
  • Provide medicines information, advice and education to service users, carers and staff
  • Contribute to the ongoing development of the service and clinical governance

The candidate will provide training and development on CAMHS and Perinatal-related medicines management to junior and trainee staff, including trainee pharmacists, pre-registration pharmacy technicians and visiting trainee pharmacists.

The candidate will work in collaboration with the rest of the West London NHS Trust pharmacy team to provide pharmacy services across the Trust. Where necessary, the candidate may be asked to cover colleagues' leaves of absence.

Aims of the Role:
  • To lead and develop the clinical pharmacy services to CAMHS and the Perinatal Service
  • To work as a member of the West London NHS Trust pharmacy team to ensure highest quality pharmacy services across the Trust

Role Purpose:
  • To be responsible for medicines optimisation within CAMHS and the Perinatal service
  • Undertake risk management and ensure compliance with medicines legislation and most recent clinical evidence.
  • To deliver a comprehensive medicines management service to CAMHS and the Perinatal service and when necessary to provide this service across the Trust.
  • To provide medicines information and education to CAMHS and Perinatal staff members, service users and carers.
  • To contribute to the development, implementation and training of staff in CAMHS and Perinatal on issues around medicines optimisation and medicines safety.
  • To provide input into policy and procedures affecting the use of pharmaceuticals within CAMHS and Perinatal under the direction of the Lead pharmacist, Tri-Borough.
  • To work with Local Lead pharmacists and Band 7 pharmacists to undertake audits to evaluate and improve services alongside West London NHS Trust, CAMHS and Perinatal service priorities.
  • To evaluate the pharmacy service provided to CAMHS and Perinatal.
  • To provide medicines information and motivational interviewing to help service users adhere to their medication care plans.
  • To work towards quality improvement (QI) initiatives and undertake appropriate research in line with the Trusts Quality Improvement vision and with direction from the Lead Pharmacist.
  • To review CAMHS and Perinatal ePACT data and advise on cost effective prescribing.
  • To work with the rest of the MDT to develop CAMHS and the Perinatal service e.g. specialist clinics.

  • Specialist knowledge of medicines management systems and process in an integrated NHS
  • Knowledge and experience of a range of healthcare settings
  • Experience of medicines in pregnancy and breastfeeding
Desirable
  • Demonstrate specialist knowledge in more than one field
Qualifications Essential
  • Masters Degree in Pharmacy
  • Post graduate clinical diploma in pharmacy or equivalent experience
  • Specialist knowledge of Mental Health pharmacy gained through diploma level training and /or equivalent experience e.g. Psychiatric Therapeutics PgCert/ Psychiatric Pharmacy PgDip
