We are looking for registered nurses to join our fantastic team at the Astley Court, Little Plumstead Hospital, Norfolk, NR13 5EW. We are looking for Learning Disabilities Nurses and Mental Health Nurses.

The post involves 24-hour rotation. We offer extra payments for unsocial hours worked and a recruitment and retention premium (RRP) of £6,000 per year on top of the Band 6 salary (subject to terms and conditions).

The successful candidate will receive up to £120 towards their registration fee, which will be paid upon commencement. This payment will be subject to tax and national insurance deductions.

Main duties of the job

  • In line with philosophy of the clinical area, the post holder is responsible for assessment, planning and implementation and evaluation of care for the service user group in conjunction with other staff.
  • The post holder will provide a key leadership role providing direction to the nursing team, acting as a positive role model, contributing to the professional development of junior staff and consistently demonstrating the trust values.
  • To maintain high standards of nursing care to service users. To contribute to the development of a comprehensive psychiatric nursing service, this meets the needs of service users and carers.
  • The post holder would take charge of the unit in the absence of the Team Leader and to instruct\demonstrate knowledge and skills to junior staff.
  • As a Charge Nurse you will be responsible for the day-to-day running of a learning disability assessment and treatment service and will assist the Team Leader in maintaining effective team working processes. Charge Nurses must be able to exercise a considerable degree of initiative, possess mature judgment and maintain a calm, friendly and efficient manner when dealing with patients, their relatives, colleagues, and visitors.

Job description Job responsibilities

  • The postholder will function as a supervisor to named nurse as allocated, taking responsibility for ensuring that named nurses formulate appropriate care plans.
  • To ensure all staff are fully conversant with all aspects regarding the service user's care and treatment.
  • To identify the individual care needs of allocated service users, plan,implement and evaluate all care programmes in conjunction with the unit's nursing team and the MDT.
  • To participate in ward rounds, case conference, etc and will preparereports on service users as required.
  • To participate in assessment, with management, care planning, andreview of all individuals referred to unit as appropriate, with the relevant disciplines.


Person Specification Qualifications Essential
  • Relevant professional qualifications i.e. RNLD and up to date registration
  • Management/Leadership Qualifications or willingness to attend Leadership training
  • Education to degree standard or equivalent relevant experience
  • Preceptorship and Mentorship /ENB 998
Skills Essential
  • Ability to demonstrate leadership skills
  • To have a sound understanding of the clinical and managerial issues involved on an inpatient unit.
  • Knowledge of the Mental Health Act 1983
  • Knowledge of Mental Capacity Ac
  • Sound knowledge and ability to understand the importance of Infection Control at work
