An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and innovative 3rd Year Trainee Clinical/Counselling Psychologist/ or HCPC Clinical/Counselling Psychologist with experience of, and a keen interest in mental health to join Surrey and Borders Partnership NHS Trust (SABP) and work full-time within Runnymede and Spelthorne CMHRS.

We welcome applicants who are either in the third year of a formally taught Clinical/Counselling Psychology Doctorate, newly qualified or qualified with post-qualification experience. If a trainee, this post is ideally suited for those in their final year doctoral Clinical/Counselling psychology training who are looking for a CBT placement and/or have interest in CBT. Any job offer will be dependent on meeting the person spec and/or HCPC registration. Any candidates who are within 12 months of attaining HCPC registration are encouraged to apply as well as qualified clinical or counselling psychologists.

The candidate must have a full and valid driving licence and access to a vehicle for work purposes due to the community element of this role and the large geographical area that this post covers.

Main duties of the job

To maintain high standards of care in all areas of practice in accordance with the HCPC Code of Conduct, professional guidelines and Trust Policies and Procedures. To act within the Mental Health Act and Mental Capacity Act (2005). To be aware of and implement Safeguarding Adult and Child Protection Policies, procedures and legislation.

Under the supervision of a HCPC registered practitioner psychologist, carry out comprehensive psychological and cognitive assessments, formulate psychological needs, and plan, implement and evaluate delivery of individual and group psychology interventions and consultations.

To actively involve people in developing and agreeing their own care plan, to act as an advocate and ensure that there is proper regard for their dignity, choice, self-esteem, racial, cultural, sexual and religious needs and preferences.

To work creatively to adapt verbal and written communication to meet the needs of people who use our services

To undertake comprehensive risk assessments and develop effective risk management plans that are shared with the service user and MDT

  • Ensure that a carers assessment is offed to carers of service users, as in line with Standard 6 of the National Service Framework.
  • To contribute to conducting clinical audit, quality assurance and research, maintaining current knowledge of research findings and development within specific care group.

To contribute to developing and providing a range of specialist teaching/training packages which can be delivered to a range of multi-disciplinary audiences.

To positively contribute to divisional and team developments in relation to all aspects of psychology practice.

To contribute to initiatives to ensure that the diverse needs of people within the care group are addressed within local services and future developments.

Ensure detailed and appropriate records are maintained to demonstrate that contact with people who use services, and their carers, is meaningful and effective.

To show personal and professional development through weekly clinical supervision, shadowing, joint working, personal study/CPD and reflection.

Band 7

To lead and hold professional responsibility for the psychological care plan for individuals who use our services.

To contribute to the supervision and Individual Performance Review/Appraisal of assistant psychologists, trainee psychologists and other professionals as required.

To contribute to the development and implementation of appropriate policies, protocols and care pathways.

To lead the development, maintenance and monitoring of service standards, collect and collate data/ information effectively for the purpose of audit, research and service performance.

Person Specification Qualifications Essential
  • Qualifications required
  • Undergraduate degree in Psychology, or an equivalent qualification, which confers eligibility for Graduate Basis for Chartered Membership (GBC) of the British Psychological Society.
  • Post-graduate skills training across a range of psychological models, for example systemic, cognitive-behavioral, psychodynamic. behavioural is correct spelling
  • Enrolled on a recognized recognised is correct HCPC approved and BPS accredited Professional Doctorate in Clinical/Counselling Psychology as a third-year trainee.
  • Band 7 Practitioner Psychology Health Care Professionals Council (HCPC) registration.
Experience Essential
  • Band 6 and Band 7
  • Experience of paid or voluntary work in a clinical, community or clinical-academic setting exposing the person to client groups and service settings directly relevant to the application of psychology in a clinical setting.
  • Band 7
  • Experience of working with people from across the life span with a range of mental health issues and cognitive profiles.
  • Experience of the practical application of a range of psychological models including systemic, cognitive-behavioural and psychodynamic.
Desirable
  • Experience of working in a secondary care adult community mental health setting.
  • Experience of working with people with complex trauma, personality disorders and/or psychosis.
  • Experience of working with severe and enduring mental health presentations.
