A vacancy has become available for a band 6 speech and language therapist to work in the community CPFT Speech and Language Therapy Team. The post holder will work in the East of the County alongside colleagues, providing input to patients with acquired communication and swallowing difficulties.

The successful applicant will join a friendly, innovative team of therapists and clinical assistants . The team meet regularly for meetings and the post holder will receive regular line management and clinical supervision . The service currently holds two clinical days a year and there are opportunities for training and development within the team .

Part time or full time hours will be considered.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will work independently, providing speech and language therapy input to patients on an outpatient and domiciliary basis and input to the community hospital wards, providing a high standard of quality clinical care.

The post will involve working with patients with communication impairment, dysphagia and could also include some voice work.

Job description Job responsibilities

1. To independently assess, differentially diagnose and develop and implement specialist care programmes for patients with Speech, Language, voice and swallowing needs in the in-patient/day rehab/outpatient and domiciliary setting2. To work effectively within the integrated care team structure and liaiseappropriately with members of the MDT and other agencies.3. To ensure that accurate and timely written records are kept which comply withthe Trust policy and HCPC guidance, reporting on any issues as appropriate.4. To contribute to the prioritisation and triage of patients within clinical pathways5. To provide specialist advice to all members of the multi-disciplinary team, service users and appropriate others, of changes involving current care plans, patients progress and other relevant matters that pertain to the care of the patient.6. To work with clinical assistants within the team delegating work in line with clinical competencies and providing clinical supervision and support for assistants.

Person Specification Qualifications Essential
  • Degree or equivalent in SLT
  • Post graduate dysphagia trained and fully independent in dysphagia management
Desirable
  • Evidence of post grad short specialist course
Experience Essential
  • working with adults with wide range of comm and swallow disorders in IP and OP setting
  • MTD working
Desirable
  • line management/ clinical supervision to junior staff
  • Working in care homes
