You will participate in the provision of a responsive, needs-led mental health assessment and short-term intervention service to young people aged 11 - 15yrs presenting to the General Hospital following an episode of mental distress, mental illness and/or self harm and signposting to other support services if needed.

There will also be a teaching, education and support role, assisting non-mental health staff to respond to mental health needs more effectively.

You will hold a registered mental health qualification and be able to demonstrate post registration experience at Band 5 or above. You will need to provide evidence of continual professional development.

The successful applicant will have excellent interpersonal skills, good communication skills, be IT literate and work across a multitude of clinical systems, RIO, e-Roster, Trakcare, Sunrise. You will be responsible for handling highly confidential information.

There is an emphasis on continued professional development.

Main duties of the job

  • Offer an assessment service to patients presenting at the emergency and paediatric departments with broad range of mental health and psychological problems, and psychiatric illnesses
  • Providing a mental health consultation, liaison and advice service throughout the departments
  • Delivering a range of evidence based psychological interventions to individual patients aged 11-15 who have predominantly self-harmed
  • Assisting and supporting general hospital colleagues in making decisions about treatment and care in complex situations
  • Providing formal and informal education and clinical supervision to registered and unregistered staff
  • Representing mental health services within Hospitals Trust
  • Providing a communication structure between secondary mental health services, primary care and non-statutory services, as a means of ensuring the highest possible standards patients car

Person Specification Qualifications Essential
  • Professional Health or Care Qualification (MHSW, SROT, RMHN, RNLD)
  • oLeadership training e.g. LEO/ILM
Experience Essential
  • oDemonstrate extensive experience and expertise regarding delivering evidence based/best practice clinical interventions within CAMHS or related services and/or adult mental health settings.
  • oDemonstrate current registration with a regulated professional body/ organisation: NMC, HCPC, BPS, ACP
  • oDemonstrate clinical expertise and high levels of competency regarding assessing and managing people with high clinical risk needs. This will include significant evidence of working within a positive risk management model of practice within either a mental health or learning disability setting.
  • oSignificant proven post qualifying experience of working with children and young people with severe and enduring mental illness
  • oA knowledge of CAMHS/Children & Young People's issues including assessment and interventions
  • oRecognised qualification in a specific model of therapy e.g. family therapy, CBT etc.
  • oExperience of teaching, assessing and development of informal and formal training programmes
  • oExperience of working in a general hospital setting
