We are looking to recruit a Clinical or Counselling Psychologists to our community based psychological therapies service for working age adults, who have experience in secondary care services, either during doctoral training or as qualified practitioners, working with clients who have a complex trauma presentation.

We are linked closely to the University of Birmingham Doctorate in Clinical Psychology course and provide placements for trainees from there as well as Wolverhampton University's Doctorate in Counselling Psychology.

Members of our wider psychology team have wide-ranging therapeutic interests ranging from psychodynamic to systemic/narrative and cognitive-behavioural models as well as expertise in consultancy, supervision and training and form a supportive network for team and service members.

All candidates are expected to be registered with a recognised professional body for psychological therapies and evidence will be required at interview.

Main duties of the job

This post primarily offers an exciting opportunity to develop and implement the skills required for effective medium and longer term psychological therapy on a one-to-one and/or group format.

The successful applicant will join the local based Community and Recovery Service and will also be part of a trust wide, team consisting of clinical and counselling psychologists, psychotherapists and intervention practitioners. The post holder will be supported and accountable to a clinical lead and team manager and be professionally supported by a consultant psychologist.

The post holder will work with a complex and varied adult mental health client group. The successful candidate will also need to demonstrate the ability to work in a multi-professional environment and may be required to provide clinical supervision and expertise to their colleagues.

Education and Qualifications
Essential
  • oPost-graduate doctoral level training in Applied Psychology (or its equivalent) as accredited by the BPS including models of psychopathology, clinical psychometrics and neuropsychology, two or more distinct psychological therapies and lifespan developmental psychology
  • oHCPC registration as an Applied Psychologist
  • oEvidence of continuing professional development

Experience

  • oCommunicate complex and highly sensitive information effectively, to a wide range of people oAdapt creatively the evidence base for interventions relevant to the client group of adults from the age of 16 and above oProvide (within agreed timescale) effective teaching, training, consultancy and clinical supervision
  • oWork effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team and lead practitioner responsibilities oUndertake complex multiagency working and liaise with multiple systems
  • oUtilise psychometric tests competently
  • oIdentify, provide and promote appropriate interventions / means of support for carers and staff exposed to highly distressing situations and challenging behaviours

  • Post-graduate qualification showing evidence of supervised practice in an evidence-based psychological therapeutic model

  • Skills in using multimedia materials in presentations
  • Experience of joint working with statutory, voluntary and private sector agencies
