THIS POST IS FIXED TERM FOR 12 MONTHS TO COVER MATERNITY.

A fixed term opportunity has arisen for BAND 6 RMN to become part of our developing CAMHS Crisis Liaison Service for 12 months to cover maternity leave. The post holder will be responsible for urgent emergency assessments of children and young people presenting in crisis. The ability to make balanced decisions and use positive risk taking approaches, whilst managing potentially high pressure situations is an essential part of this role.

The post involves interagency liaison with local A&E departments and paediatric wards as well as with Child and Family Social Services, education and other agencies, as needed. This role will require the post holder to attend multi-agency Safeguarding and risk management meetings to provide a CAMHS perspective following Crisis assessments.

The post holder will also be responsible for providing Consultation and training within CAMHS as well as to outside agencies.

The post holder will be working a 12 hour shift pattern, which will include day and night shifts , as the service is currently moving towards providing a 24 hour service.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will undertake timely, expert bio-psycho-social assessments of children and young people up to their 18th birthday, who have presented with a mental health crisis, such as suicidal behaviour, deliberate self-harm, psychosis and eating disorders, to a variety of hospital and community settings.

The post holder will function as an autonomous clinical practitioner, working independently of, but in collaboration with multi-agency staff and is expected to demonstrate highly skilled assessments, formulate safety plans, manage complex, utilising evidence-based practice .

The post holder will be highly skilled at assessing risk and will have a role in facilitating and participating in Mental Health Act assessments as well as assisting to facilitate informal admissions to Tier 4 CAMHS / AMHS bed, when the risks are too great for the young person to be safely managed within the community. High level of liaison with multi agencies will be required in facilitating admission.

The post holder will provide consultation to outside agencies where there are concerns regarding a child or young person's mental health. The post holder will provide Consultation with local police to be part of the decision making process when a Section 135/Section 136 is being considered.

Will assist in the continual development of the team, through clinical audit and suitable forms of reflective practice.

Person Specification QUALIFICATIONS/KNOWLEDGE Essential
  • Professional qualification and current registration RMN, RNMH, RNLD. Knowledge of Adult Protection and Child Protection policies and procedures . Knowledge of child care legislation, including Children, Community Care. Sound clinical and working knowledge of the legal and policy framework underpinning mental health service provision: Mental Health Act, Mental Capacity Act, Crisis Care Concordat ,Mental Health Measures Welsh Government's Strategies, National Frameworks and NICE Guidelines.
Desirable
  • Training in an additional therapeutic modality, eg CBT, DBT Family Therapy Teaching and assessing qualification
Experience Essential
  • . Abilities required to perform effectively in the role, e.g. - Able to demonstrate situations where effective leadership a Substantial post-registration experience of working with experience of working with young clients and their families, in a variety of settings, who present with complex and diverse mental health needs , social care concerns and high risk, challenging behaviours. Advanced clinical assessment skills, history taking skills, clinical decision-making skills, risk assessment and management skills. Experience of working in a multi -disciplinary team within a range of mental health settings Ability to address social exclusion by accessing community resources.

  • Skilled at engaging with families who are emotionally distressed, hostile or aggressive and be able to use highly developed skills in listening and communicating to de-escalate situations. Skilled at containing anxiety levels of self and others and Organisational ability and time management skills with a flexible approach to the clinical demands. Ability to work autonomously and within a team. Skilled at developing and delivering training and consultation to other professionals.
