An opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and motivated registered social worker to join the Multi-Disciplinary Team based at the Hellingly Centre, a secure hospital managed by the Forensic Healthcare Service.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be a registered social worker who will:Be a member of FHS Social Work team.

Provide for the social care needs of mentally disordered offenders detained in conditions of Low/Medium Secure.

Work with inpatients as part of the MDT providing secure recovery. Follow up discharged patients who may be under social supervision as part of the transition to the community.

Carry out a range of social work responsibilities within frame work of NHS and Community Care Act.

Be fully conversant with legal duties under MHA 1983, DCVA and MCA. Lead on the Safeguarding of Adults at Risk and Children.

Be fully conversant with Part 3 MHA and S117 Aftercare arrangements. Liaise with other agencies to plan complex discharge packages.

Have excellent report writing skills and the ability to prepare and present evidence to statutory bodies such as MHT's, MOJ and Parole Board. As part of the MDT attend ward rounds, CPA's and undertake related work.

Understand multi-agency information sharing protocols in the interest of public protection.Have an understanding of MAPPA procedures. Hold a complex case load.

Visit families to gather information and to offer support. Initiate carers assessments where needed.

Visit patients in out of area placements to attend CPA's, MHT's and Case Conferences to advise on and progress future discharge arrangements.

Liaise with Probation, VLO etc with regard to the rights of victims under DCVA.

The candidate must be a registered social worker with Social Work England.

You will:

• Attend multi-disciplinary ward meetings, CPA reviews, admission and discharge care planning meetings to in order to advise on and progress discharge planning.
• Understand, respect and work within Protected Characteristics of Equalities Act 2010.
• Bring knowledge of social care issues to the multi-disciplinary team.
• Advise the team through specialist knowledge of MHA, MCA, DCVA and on Safeguarding.
• Obtain and provide welfare benefit advice to patients.
• Deliver specific interventions with other members of the team.
• Visit out of area placements to monitor provision and plan care pathways.
• Write reports and give evidence to MHT and other statutory bodies.
• Provide supervision to SW Assistant or other staff as required.
• Take part in Clinical Improvement groups and audits as required by the service.

• Significant post qualification experience
• Significant mental health experience
• Knowledge MHA Part 2 & 3
• Excellent assessment skills including risk assessment
• Proven ability to devise and deliver discharge planning
• Previous experience of working in a multi disciplinary team
• Sound knowledge of Safeguarding Adults and Children
• Candidate will have experience working with complex mental health needs
• Sound knowledge of: ? MHA 1983/2007 including Part 3 ? Mental Disorder ? Safeguarding Adults at Risk ? Aftercare packages
• Communication/Relationship skills: ? Excellent communication skills with colleagues, service users, carers and professionals are required
• Sound analytical skills particularly in risk management is essential. ? High level of judgement will be needed in the interest of Public Protection
• Ability to plan and deliver packages of care
• Candidates will have excellent data inputting skills to enable them to accurately record client information
• Driving License essential
