The Integrated Autism Service provides support that is lifelong, is responsive to need, overcomes barriers between health and social care, links with and supports education and employment services, is flexible, is easily accessible, is highly skilled in autism and provides a source of expertise for wider service.Our Integrated Autism Service is a collaboration between health and social care in partnership with education services - a truly integrated service.The Service works with, provides advice and support to other professionals in statutory services to ensure skill development, reduction in duplication and flexible support for individuals with autism, as well as integration and joint working with other key services and teams.

Main duties of the job

The post is designed to deliver highly specialist Occupational Therapy diagnostic assessment for adults and intervention and support adults with ASD, their family and carers alongside joint working, consultation, training and advisory support for other professionals.This role will act as the Occupational Therapy specialist in the team and be key in contributing to the clinical assessment of adults with ASD. The role will also formulate plans of support and interventions for individuals with autism which support:1. The ability to engage in roles and routines the service user identifies as being productive and valued (such as education, Further education and employment).2. Individuals to develop and maintain skills around functional tasks and activities of daily living.3. Social interaction and engagement, including, access to leisure and hobbies.4, The development of adaptive strategies or adaptations to support individuals and families around transitional phases.5. The reduction of distress around sensory and other related issues.6. The identification and maintenance of strengths and skills.This role will also provide consultancy and liaison to other professionals and contribute to the development of specialist Occupational Therapy assessment and interventions and contribute to care pathways.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.

PRINCIPLE DUTIESThe post holder will:

Undertake diagnostic assessment for ASD.Assess and plan interventions to own specialist caseload based on robust knowledge of evidence based practice and intervention options using clinical assessment, reasoning skills and knowledge of options available.Negotiate with the client and, with consent, their families or carers to ensure shared client goals and priorities for intervention based on achieving balance in relation to self-care, productivity and leisure.Deliver and manage highly specialist interventions for people with ASD. Review and evaluate interventions provided.Plan, develop and monitor specific interventions delivered by support staff.Maintain appropriate clinical records.Provide support and supervision as required.Support carers to meet their own goals, social, occupational and productivity needs.Provide specialist advice/consultations to other professionals and carers.

Person Specification Qualifications Essential
  • Degree or Diploma in Occupational Therapy
Desirable
  • Knowledge of standardised and non-standardised assessments that can be used with autistic adults.
Experience Essential
  • Specialist knowledge of legislation, professional assessments and interventions relevant to Occupational Therapy and adults with Autistic Spectrum Disorder..
