An exciting opportunity has arisen for an 8a Senior CBT Therapist in the Psychological Therapies Team within the Eating Disorders Service.

The Eating Disorders Service at St Ann's Hospital in Haringey provides comprehensive care for patients 18 years old and above with a primary diagnosis of an eating disorder. It is one of the largest units in the country providing services to a catchment area that includes North Central London, North East London and parts of Essex. The service provides intensive inpatient treatment on Iris ward which is located in a newly built state of the art mental health building, Blossom Court. Our 20 bedded unit features ensuite bedrooms, more daylight and views of nature to help reduce patient stress, anxiety and pain as well as a sensory room. The service also includes our outpatient services, community liaison services, and a day programme.

The Psychological Therapies team is responsible for providing assessment and treatment across all areas of the service including inpatient, outpatient and the day program. The majority of the clinical work, both individual and group, uses a broadly cognitive behavioural framework, which is tailored to the presenting eating disorder and any co-morbid conditions.

Main duties of the job

As a successful candidate, you will be working predominantly in the Outpatient Service which consists of a multidisciplinary team of Psychiatry, Psychology, Community Liaison Nursing, Dieticians, Occupational Therapy, and Family Therapy. You will be providing treatment for Outpatients as well as supervising and managing Band 7 CBT Therapists and Junior Psychologists. You will also be supporting the Psychological Therapies Lead by representing the Psychological Therapies Team in several MDT meetings weekly, co-ordinating service development and overseeing the planning for groups. Being part of the Psychological Therapies Team, you will attend the weekly Psychological Therapies meeting, leading these when the Lead is not available, and receive weekly supervision from the Psychological Therapies Lead to support your work. You will also attend fortnightly CPD sessions arranged for the Psychological Therapies Team as well as a monthly Clinical Improvement Group where the whole service meets on a monthly basis and a monthly reflective practice group.

Person Specification EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS Essential

• Post graduate diploma in CBT
• Provisional BABCP accreditation

Desirable

• Full BABCP accreditation

EXPERIENCE AND KNOWLEDGE Essential

• Experience of working with people with eating disorders.
• Experience of specialist psychological assessment and treatment of clients across the full range of care settings, including outpatient, community, primary care and inpatient settings.
• Experience of working with a wide variety of client groups, across the whole life course presenting problems that reflect the full range of clinical severity including maintaining a high degree of professionalism in the face of highly emotive and distressing problems, verbal abuse and the threat of physical abuse.
• Experience of facilitating group therapy.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES Essential

• Excellent skills in the use of complex methods of psychological assessment, intervention and management frequently requiring sustained and intense concentration.
• Well-developed skills in the ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, complex, highly technical and/or clinically sensitive information to clients, their families, carers and other professional colleagues both within and outside the NHS.
• The ability to provide consultation to other professional and non-professional groups.
• Formal training and experience of supervision of other psychologists.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS Essential

• Ability to identify and employ mechanisms of clinical governance as appropriate, to support and maintain clinical practice in the face of regular exposure to highly emotive material and challenging behaviour.
