As an Executive member of the Trust Board, the post holders prime responsibility is to work corporately with other Board members in determining and delivering the Trusts strategic plans, managing the organisations performance and assuring good governance across all of the organisations functions, through visible and empowering leadership. A key element of this role will be to lead and drive forward the medical agenda to meet the changing needs of the Trust and the NHS. Main duties of the job

The post holder will be the Lead Executive for specifically setting standards and providing professional advice to the Chief Executive, the Board of Directors and Board of Governors on all medical matters and assuring delivery of the Trusts strategic plansin the following areas:

Leading the Trust Boards statutory duties of clinical governance in conjunction with the Chief Nurse

Lead the development of the Trust Clinical Strategy

Professional leadership to the medical profession throughout the Trust.

Clinical effectiveness and evidence based practice, including implementation of local and national guidelines.

Provide strategic leadership for continuous quality Improvement

Continuing professional and personal development, lifelong learning and appraisal.

Review of job plans.

Appointment procedures.

Professional and personal conduct and competencies.

Medical workforce planning.

Medicines and pharmacy.

Research, Development and Innovation

Person Specification Qualifications Essential
  • Medical qualification with current registration with the GMC
  • Significant evidence of continued professional development in medical leadership
  • Educated to masters level or equivalent qualification in leadership or management or equivalent experience

Experience Essential
  • Demonstrable track record of success in medical leadership, gained ideally at/ or close to Board level in a comparably complex NHS provider organisation
  • Track record of working effectively with, and gaining the confidence of, external or partner organisations, such as Commissioners, Clinical Academic and other NHS organisations, and of identifying and developing new opportunities for innovation and service development
  • Experience in leading clinical governance agendas,including patient safety and risk management.
  • Demonstrable experience of working as part of a corporate leadership team, contributing to agendas beyond your own professional brief and being actively involved in the leadership and development of the wider organisation.
  • Evidence of successfully developing and implementing service user, carer and public involvement strategies
