DHCFT offers 6 week placements to medical students.
We are seeking an experienced professional and motivated individual to join our undergraduate medical education team for Older Adults Services in Derby.
Previous experience in a teaching role, whilst desirable, is not essential as you will have the opportunity to develop these skills in within the post.
The role involves educating, supporting and guiding medical students from the University of Nottingham, whilst on their psychiatry placement in Derby, mainly working across the in-patient wards at Kingsway Hospital with some in-reach into the Liaison Psychiatry team at the Royal Derby Hospital.
You need to be passionate about providing education and support to the students, as well as working collaboratively with multi-disciplinary colleagues.

Main duties of the job
In collaboration with clinical teams and the education department, the post holder will support and facilitate medical student training in Psychiatry within the clinical environment.
To support bedside teaching, enabling students to practise clinical skills, such as history taking, risk assessment, Mental State Examinations.
Participate the Expert Patients in delivering the Lived Experience Programme.
To be able to offer pastoral support to students who may struggle during the placement, as psychiatry can be an emotionally challenging placement for medical students.
Actively participate in the assessment process for student appraisal.
Contribute to data collection, quality and standards in teaching in order to maintain and improve on student experience.
Represent the clinical teaching team at appropriate Trust and regional education meetings.

Person Specification Education / Qualifications Essential
- NMC registered Code Sub Part 1 RN 3 Mental Health Nursing
- Educated to Degree Level or evidence of equivalent experience in relevant clinical area
- Evidence of up to date Personal Development Plan and Professional Portfolio
- Teaching qualification: PGCE, ENB 997/8, NVQ Assessor, CG 730 or equivalent
- Demonstrate relevant post registration clinical experience
- Recent experience of working with service users and carers who have experienced of mental ill health
- Recent experience of working in mental health mulit-disciplinary teams
- Recent experience of co-ordinating care and working in multi-professional teams
- Demonstrate knowledge and expertise of CPA / Risk Assessment and Management skills
- Demonstrate up to date evidence based knowledge for clinical practice
- Demonstrate knowledge of mental health and work based legislation
- Demonstrate comprehensive knowledge and awareness of professional accountability and codes of conduct
- Demonstrate literacy and numeric skills
