We are seeking to recruit a forward thinking and highly motivated Occupational Therapist to join Therapies Team on Devon Ward, Male PICU at Chase Farm Hospital.

The successful candidate will be involved in shaping and monitoring the quality of service provision against set standards. As a key member of the MDT the successful applicant will hold a designated caseload and be able to work independently providing OT assessments, addressing occupational performance, enabling the client in areas of self-care, productivity and leisure, and will:
  • Be motivated, energetic and a flexible team player with excellent communication skills
  • Be able to use initiative and have some responsibilities towards the management of the inpatient treatment programme.
  • Demonstrate an interest and participation in evidence -based practice and professional development and working with recovery principles.
  • Be familiar with the MOHO and other evidence- based assessment tools in order to establish a baseline functional assessment from which recommendations can determine further on-going care and treatment to enable optimum functioning.

Main duties of the job

- To be part of the Inpatient Therapy Team who provide evidenced-based occupational therapy provision to Devon ward.

- To be an active member of the multi-disciplinary team on the ward and be involved in assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating patient care. The post will involve delivery of the OT provision to a designated caseload, focusing on recovery and developing skills for life.

- This will include planning and running a range of therapeutic groups and individual sessions, carrying out functional assessments and contributing to multidisciplinary team care planning, formulation and risk assessment.

- You will work closely with the MDT to provide occupational therapy assessment and intervention as part of the acute clinical pathway. The team includes: Peer Activity Coordinators, Occupational Therapist's, Clinical Exercise Therapist, Drama therapist and Activity Coordinators.

Person Specification EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS Essential
  • HCPC registered OT Dip/BSc/MSc (Hons) in Occupational Therapy
EXPERIENCE AND KNOWLEDGE Essential
  • Experience of acute inpatient and/or community areas, working with people going through a mental health crisis
  • Working with a range of HCPs
  • Experience in using a range of standardised OT assessments
  • Clear concept of OT and models of practice.
  • Experience of facilitating a variety of groups
  • Supervision of junior staff
SKILLS AND ABILITIES Essential
  • Organisational skills.
  • Confidence to work autonomously and use own initiative.
  • Ability to work well in a team setting.
