We are looking for a band 6 Specialist practitioner and Supervisor to join our MHST and CWP team. We are seeking a supervisor with either a core qualification or CWP/EMHP qualification alongside experience working with children and adolescents within an education and health setting.

The role will include a part-time Post-Graduate Supervisor training course, which will last for 1 year at the University of Exeter, this is a requirement for applicants who dont already have a supervisors qualification within CYP IAPT at this level.

The role is dynamic and challenging. You will provide assessments and hold an active caseload of children and adolescents with mild moderate emotional and mental health difficulties, delivering evidence-based 1:1 and group interventions, employing the principles underpinning the national CYPMH Children and Young Peoples Mental Health programme and the Whole School Approach.

Main duties of the job

Low-intensity, early intervention will be delivered in a range of education settings. You will build relationships with key stakeholders in educational provisions, to introduce and develop the Whole School Approach, alongside EMHPs

You will be an experienced and qualified professional (CWP or EMHP) with 2 years of post-qualifying training. The ability to adapt communication and intervention styles to meet individual need is important and you will have knowledge of child development and child protection procedures.

Using both evidence-based practice and routine outcome measures, you will use a strength-based approach to work collaboratively with people, in line with key CYP-IAPT principles.

Key areas of focus for the Mental Health Support Team (MHST) Supervisor/Clinician will be:

EMHP and CWP Support and Supervision

Delivering Early, low-intensity Intervention in accordance with the evidence base.

To build and maintain relationships with the Designated Mental Health Lead and other key professionals in our partner schools.

Supporting the development of the MHST and CWP service

Building positive relationships with our colleagues in wider CAMHS and other key agencies.

The post holder will deliver high quality comprehensive mental health services. The role involves managing a defined caseload with a focus on providing expert assessment and evidence-based treatment for children and young people with mild to moderate mental health difficulties and their parents/carers. The post holder will provide training, supervision and consultation to staff within a specific education provision.

The post holder will contribute to the clinical leadership of the team, providing supervision and caseload management to the new Education Mental Health Practitioner IAPT trainees and continue this role once the trainees have successfully completed their training with the University of Exeter.

This will be a 2 year part time University course at the University of Exeter, incorporating supervisory skills training as well as advanced anxiety, neurodiversity and learning disability training. Following successful completion of the 2 year course alongside in service clinical experience you will be awarded a Senior Practitioner PGDIP.

The post holder will be responsible for the clinical supervision and caseload management of trainee mental health practitioners in the MHST. In year one this is expected to be 2-3 trainee practitioners within each locality team, this is a fast developing service and further practitioners from other locality teams will be added to the post holders portfolio. There will be a responsibility to continue to supervise and caseload manage the trainees on their successful completion of their IAPT training.

The post holder will act in support with fellow Team Leaders in providing clinical Leadership and advice across the MHST Service.

Person Specification Experience Essential
  • Substantial experience of managing an extensive and complex caseload and working with children/young people presenting with a range of moderate to complex mental health presentations
  • Experience of working in a multi-disciplinary and multi-agency environment
  • Experience of delivering CBT-informed interventions and supervision
Desirable
  • Providing clinical supervision
Knowledge, skills and abilities Essential
  • Proven knowledge of the Mental Health Act/ Mental Health Capacity Act requirements
  • A developed knowledge and understanding of child development
  • Proven knowledge of child protection and the importance of multi-agency work for children and families in the community
  • Proven knowledge of CYP-IAPT principles including the use of evidence based therapies and Routine Outcome Measures
Qualifications Essential
  • A professional qualification at degree level or equivalent (Psychological profession, Nurse, Occupational Therapist, Speech and Language Therapist, Social Worker etc.) or successful completion of the post-graduate EMHP (or CWP) CYP-IAPT training.
  • Active registration or appropriate accreditation with professional body (NMC, HCPC, BACP, BABCP) or registration with the appropriate body when this is possible for Li-CBT post- graduate qualifications. Recognised qualification in evidenced based therapeutic intervention for children/young people and their families/carers
  • Completion of parallel IAPT supervisor training programme within first year of taking on the post if this is not already in place Training to level 2 in Safeguarding Adults and level 3 in Children and Young People: roles and competencies for Health Care staff
