The Bedfordshire and Luton Perinatal Mental Health Team provides mental health support for women and their babies during pregnancy and 1 year after birth. The team prioritizes women with serious and complex mental health needs, including those who have experienced serious mental health episodes in the past and are currently well. We also provide specialist consultation, training and advice to a range of mental health, maternity and primary health services.

We are pleased to be advertising for Senior Mental Health Practitioner to work within the perinatal team with women receiving support from the service. We are looking for someone with an understanding of perinatal mental health and experience within adult mental health services. A background knowledge of the parent-infant relationship, and infant mental health would also be an advantage.

The Senior Practitioner will sit within the PNMH team, and help to develop stronger links with a wide range of services that support women and their families. We are looking for individuals who are passionate about improving the experience for women with mental health problems, with an ability to adapt to change and work flexibly and creatively.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be part of a multi-disciplinary Community Perinatal Mental Health Team, contributing to the effective provision of Perinatal Mental Health Services.

The post holder will work as a senior member of the team, and provide supervision and induction to colleagues in the wider Perinatal Team. You will manage and prioritise daily enquiries and referrals, addressing any identified risk concerns and offering urgent assessments for women if indicated.

You will be based in Gilbert Hitchcock House, Bedford and will need the ability to drive to undertake any urgent work, basing this decision on your clinical judgement.

As a registered mental health practitioner (Nurse, Social Worker or OT) you will communicate with a range of service users, families and carers on a daily basis, which needs a compassionate and empathetic approach.

About us

Our mission is to make a positive difference to people's lives by improving the quality of life for all we serve. Our values are: We Care, We Respect, We are Inclusive - so we are looking for people who live and breathe these qualities when supporting service users and carers, and in their relationships with colleagues in the Trust and our partner organisations.
