Highly Specialist ADHD Nurse Practitioner/CAMHS nurse prescriber
Southwark CAMHS are seeking to recruit a CAMHS nurse prescriber with excellent clinical skills and a strong interest in working with neurodiverse children and their families. This is a permanent full-time post, based within the Southwark CAMHS Neurodevelopmental Service.
The post holder will manage a caseload of young people with complex mental health needs and co-morbid ADHD and other neuropsychiatric difficulties. The post holder will be expected to contribute to specialist assessments and treatment plans for these young people.
Alongside this, they will lead a specialist service for young people with mental health difficulties and co-morbid ADHD. This involves co-ordinating the nurse led medication review clinics within the service and includes undertaking non-medical prescribing.
The post holder will be expected to use their expertise to offer advice and consultation to other members of the team as well as offering training in assessments and interventions to the wider Southwark CAMHS service, and other professional networks.
Main duties of the job
Clinically, the post holder will lead a highly specialist service for children and young people with ADHD and co-morbid mental health difficulties, contributing to specialist assessment & management and leading on coordinating the Nurse-led medication review clinics within the service, including independent non-medical prescribing.
To manage a caseload, providing the analysis of complex information to determine the planning and management of assessment and treatment to C&YP with ADHD and co-morbid mental health and neuropsychiatric difficulties.
To provide expertise in this highly specialist clinical area and to offer adviceand consultation on clients care to other members of the team, in relation to the area of expertise.
To offer training in assessment and interventions for CYP with ADHD toCAMHS and other professional networks.
To liaise with medical colleague, partner agencies and adult mental healthprofessionals across a range of settings.
To work autonomously within professional practice guidelines and Trustguidelines.
To contribute to policy and service development, undertake research, service evaluation and audit for own team/service and to contribute to the training of the clinical team and others.
About us
The Neurodevelopmental Service is a multi-disciplinary team including psychiatry/ neuropsychiatry, clinical psychology, family therapy, nursing and occupational therapy. We provide assessments and evidence-based therapies to children and young people with neurodevelopmental disorders (moderate to profound intellectual disability, autism spectrum disorders, ADHD and other neurodevelopmental disorders). The service works in clinical partnership with child health, special needs schools and education, children's social services, and adult learning disability services, and so there are extensive opportunities to build links and structures for effective co-working with these agencies. The service provides a range of interventions including: innovative group parenting interventions for parents of children with ASD and ADHD (developed and delivered in collaboration with the internationally renowned Centre for Parent and Child Support), group interventions for children and young people addressing anxiety and emotional dysregulation, Positive Behaviour Supports (with expert external supervision), adapted CBT for mood and anxiety disorders, systemic therapy (including a regular systemic therapy clinic) and pharmacological intervention. You will have the opportunity to develop skills in the delivery of these interventions through training, and group and individual supervision.

To provide primary CAMHS assessments, other specialist assessments, using self-report measures, as appropriate, structured observations, clinical interviews, and to interpret and integrate this highly complex data to identify and diagnose the cause of emotional and behavioural problems in C&YP.
To formulate mental healthcare and crisis treatment plans that are specific to each C&YP and family, based upon an analysis of complex factors concerning historical and developmental processes contributing to the presentation. To assess safeguarding issues for each case, consulting with other professionals and referring concerns to the appropriate safeguarding team as required.
To deliver evidence based treatments, monitoring outcome and modifying and adapting interventions drawing on a range of theoretical options.
To assess and monitor risk and draw up appropriate risk management plans in conjunction with the C&YP, parents/carers and other services as appropriate.
To communicate skilfully, tactfully and sensitively highly complex, sensitive and potentially distressing information with CYP, parents, carers and colleagues taking account of sensory and cultural barriers to communication.
To maintain the highest standards of clinical record keeping and report writing, according to professional and Trust guidelines, including electronic data entry and recording.
To ensure that all services provided are acceptable and accessible to the diverse communities which make up the catchment area of the service.

Person Specification Qualifications Essential
- First level nursing qualification (registration RMN or RSCN or HV) / with related CAMHS experienceand MSc level qualification or equivalent with evidence of a comprehensive portfolio of post-registration professional development in child and adolescent mental health including evidence of clinical, audit and/or research presentations at local and national CAMHS events and evidence of publication of articles or the production of strategic reports which have advanced CAMHS.
- Non-medical prescriber with appropriate NMC registration
- All applications will require professional registration with a statutory body e.g. the Nursing Midwifery Council, General Social care council, Health professional's council or applicable psychological or psychotherapies body.
- Additional, recognised therapeutic qualification
- Formal training in supervision
- Graduate qualification related to or equivalent with evidence of a comprehensive portfolio including experience of specialist mental health assessment and treatment with children and young people with mental health difficulties, emotional, behavioural and relational problems and their families, including looked after children.
