This is a brand-new opportunity to recruit a part time 5 PA Consultant Forensic / General Adult Psychiatrist within the Dorset Forensic Service. This role is based at St Ann's Hospital in Poole and covers trust-wide working throughout Dorset.

This is a dynamic and developing forensic service that is part of a new care model that has delivered considerable savings for reinvesting in services.

Main duties of the job

We are looking to a recruit an enthusiastic and conscientious professional who is dedicated to providing the best care for our service users and have values (compassion, excellence and expertise) and a vision (Better Every Day) that resonates with that of the Trust.

This role is based at St Ann's Hospital in Poole and covers working trust wide over the whole of Dorset. The post holder will work within the Dorset Forensic Service, comprising the community forensic team (CQC outstanding) and Twynham ward the low secure unit (CQC good).

Person Specification Qualifications/Training Essential
  • General medical Qualification e.g. MBBS, or equivalent and hold a Licence to Practise.
Desirable
  • MRCPsych or recognised equivalent, e.g. membership of a psychiatry college in another country.
  • Further academic qualifications such as MRCGP, MRCP or research degree/diploma.
Eligibility Essential
  • Must be in possession or within 6 months of possession of a CCT in Psychiatry or on Specialist Register in Psychiatry.
  • On Specialist Register in Forensic Psychiatry
  • Section 12(2) approval and Approved Clinician approval or ability to obtain approval before starting post
Desirable
  • Experience of medicine outside psychiatry e.g. general practice, medicine.
Clinical Skills, Knowledge & Experience Essential
  • Excellent knowledge in specialty
  • Evidence of effective multidisciplinary team involvement.
  • Excellent clinical skills using bio-psycho-social perspective and wider medical knowledge.
  • Able to meet duties under MHA and MCA
  • Make decisions based on evidence and experience including contribution of others.
  • Excellent written and oral communication

  • Teaching Experience
  • Wide range of specialist and sub-specialist experience relevant to post within the NHS or comparable service

  • To have an understanding of own strengths and weaknesses and how these attributes affect professional functioning
  • To have an understanding of the stresses involved in being a consultant psychiatrist and how to manage these 22 appropriately.
Supervision of Junior medical Staff Essential
  • Knowledge of requirements for supervision and appraisal of junior medical staff.
  • Approved educational supervisor training
Research and Audit Essential
  • Experience of carrying out an audit project
  • Experience or involvement in a research project and publication
  • Ability to supervisor junior medical staff undertaking research projects
Desirable
  • Published audit project
  • Ability to critically appraise published research
