Would you like to expand your professional practice in Medicines Administration, Mental Health Pharmacy and ward-based working?

We are looking for an enthusiastic and self-motivated Senior Pharmacy Technician on a part time years fixed term contract (16 hours per week). Further hours may be available on the trust Bank/cross site working. This a great opportunity to gain experience and competency in this area as a member of our Medicines Optimisation ward-based team. Our Pharmacy Technicians work to provide patient centred care both in the dispensary and on wards as part of an integrated way of working. You will be a forerunner in the development of the role delivering medicines administration and optimisation services for inpatient areas, a field of work which could take your career to a new and varied level as well as gaining valuable experience in Mental Health.

Successful candidates must be a qualified ACPT and have experience in medicines optimisation in a hospital setting, previous experience in medicines administration will be helpful but not essential. Our patients often have complex and varied needs from our service and so expanding the skill set of the multi-disciplinary team creates a holistic service for our patients.

Pharmacy Technicians are fast becoming important members of the ward team and in this role your time will be divided between ward-based working and dispensary time allocated to maintain and further competencies.

Main duties of the job

  • Participating in medicines administration rounds
  • Completing admission activities such as medicines reconciliations, POD assessments and managing patient supply needs whilst in and out of the ward.
  • Supporting the discharge process to include ordering of medications, transfer of care and patient counselling and support
  • Conducting patient education sessions
  • Optimising EPMA use to support your work and the work of other members of the team
  • Maintaining safe and secure standards for the storage of medicines
  • Accuracy checking and dispensary activities (to include robotic compliance aid technologies)
