We are a 20 bedded acute female inpatient service providing 24-hour treatment and care in a safe and therapeutic place, actively engaging and involving people who are experiencing an acute mental health episode that cannot be managed in a less restrictive setting, owing to the degree of risk, clinical need or patient choice.
Many of those admitted will require detention under the Mental Health Act 1983 and the Amendment Act 2007. Where necessary, intense supervision and support will be provided.
Patients receive individualised care and treatment based on the Care Programme Approach (CPA) which highlights crisis management and a place of safety, specialised risk assessments and risk management, intensive assessment, treatment and therapy, stabilisation of acute symptoms and relapse prevention
Main duties of the job
To co-ordinate and provide care and treatment to an identified group of patients without direct supervision.
To manage and organise work as required.
Take responsibility for the development and delivery of evidence based practice, ensuring that it supports and reflects service user individual needs, Trust objectives and professional guidance.
Contribute to the development of high quality evidence based in-patient services in a changing health care environment.
Contribute towards ensuring that the ward functions as an integral part of the Directorate's services.

- Ensuring that a service user centred multi-disciplinary approach to care is present.
- Assess, plan, implement and evaluate care in keeping with evidence based practice.
- To take an active role in direct service user care and role model to junior staff.
- To provide specialist guidance to junior staff relevant to clinical speciality.
- Ensuring that a high standard of practice is maintained in relation to the detention of mentally ill clients under the Mental Health Act and Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards. Ensuring that least restrictive practices are promoted within individual care.
Person Specification Education/ Qualification/ Training Essential
- Registered Nurse (Mental Health) OR Registered Nurse (Learning Difficulty) OR Registered Nurse (Adult)
- Working with people with mental health problems/ learning disabilities
- Managing challenging and aggressive behaviour
- Working within a multidisciplinary team environment
- Experience of providing individualized and culturally sensitive care
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to assess, plan, implement and evaluate care
- Minimising clinical risk and reducing restrictive practices
- Able to manage time so that deadlines are met
- Able to work sensitively and compassionately with patients
- To have knowledge of Mental Health presentations and appropriate interventions.
