This is an exciting opportunity for a skilled and enthusiastic Clinical/Counselling Psychologist or Psychotherapist to join our well-established, dynamic and friendly clinical South West Essex team. Our service has secured additional funding which enables us to seek a clinician who thrives in a welcoming team, values innovation and values advancing high quality and creative service delivery.

The Adult Community Psychological Service provides a Tier 2 service to the South Essex locality. There will then be opportunity to work a proportion of these roles remotely. The post holder will be expected to provide specialist psychological input to the identified local community mental health teams comprising the First Response Team (FRT) and Recovery and Wellbeing Team (RWT). The FRT delivers care and interventions to clients newly referred to secondary care mental health services for a period of 6 months. The RWT delivers care plans aligned to recovery focused outcomes to clients with longer term needs. Psychologists provide direct client contact in the form of assessment and treatment . As a member of the multidisciplinary team you will also be required to provide highly regarded consultation, supervision and teaching to other professionals. Embedding psychological thinking and formulation across MDT practice is key to psychologists working in teams.

Main duties of the job

This post will also be involved in supervising Trainee Psychologists/Psychotherapists as well as Clinical Associate Psychologists (CAPS), which the Psychological Services Directorate has taken an active role in facilitating the recruitment and training of. For those interested in diversifying their job role, there are some exciting opportunities to contribute to clinical training. For suitably qualified candidates there is scope to take up substantive clinical lecturer sessions within our Training & Partnerships Team, contributing to the delivery of clinical training to our CAP apprentices and other pre-qualification students and trainees. There are opportunities to become involved as an associate lecturer, contributing to teaching in your area of interest on a more occasional basis.

Person Specification Education/Qualifications Essential
  • Doctoral qualification in Clinical/Counselling Psychology
  • HCPC registered practitioner psychologist
  • Evidence of continuing professional development in line with the requirements of professional registration
  • Evidence of completing training and/or CPD in clinical and/or research supervision.
Desirable
  • Further qualification in a specialised area of psychological practice e.g. CBT or other
  • BABCP accredited for psychologists.
  • Qualification in teaching in higher education.
  • Evidence of research publications.
Knowledge Essential
  • Doctoral or masters level knowledge & understanding of the theory and practice of specialised psychological assessment, formulation, intervention and outcome evaluation in treating people with complex mental health presentations.
  • Doctoral or masters level knowledge of mental health and psychological distress, including the theoretical and empirical evidence base and frameworks for conceptualising distress in context.
  • Doctoral or Masters level knowledge of research methodology, research design and data analysis as applied within the clinical fields of psychology
  • High level knowledge of psychological therapies and the application of current models of practice, specialist assessment tools and outcomes frameworks in own specialist area of practice
Desirable
  • Knowledge of policy and standards related to training in the psychological professions.
Skills/Experience Essential
  • Experience of specialist psychological assessment and interventions with clients across a range of care settings.
  • Skills in the use of complex methods of psychological assessment, intervention and management frequently requiring sustained and intense concentration.
  • Experience of supervising others.
Desirable
  • Experience of teaching and assessment in a higher education setting
  • Experience of delivering training within the context of a post-graduate level training programme for the psychological professions.
  • Post qualification experience of applying advanced research skills within a clinical/other setting.
  • Post accreditation training/experience in additional specialised areas of psychological practice e.g. CBT, CBTp, family therapy, ACT, DBT or other.
