Main duties of the job
This post is within the Cwm Taf Morgannwg Old Age Psychiatry service for Taff. The team provide mental health and memory services for patients over the age of 65 but also according to patients needs. The post holder can expect to gain experience of memory assessment, diagnosis and follow up as well as functional mental health. A large proportion of the clinical work will be community work including clinics but there will also be inpatient experience for patients with organic and functional mental health conditions if desired. The post holder will be supported to develop to be able to provide senior advice. Whilst we appreciate flexibility from all members of the team, the physical care is currently largely provided by the core training doctors, the Health Board is also currently seeking to employ a nurse practitioner to aid the physical care of inpatients. The post holder should expect to support and help develop core trainees and allied health professionals in the community but also in hospital as needed.

The aim of this post is to help the post holder to develop their skills in Old Age Psychiatry. There will be flexibility according to the post holders needs and wishes. However, the post holder could be supported to achieve section 12(2), work towards membership of the Royal College of Psychiatrist or work towards CESR. The post holder will have supporting professional activity time and will be supported to develop their interests, this may include experience in care of the elderly or similar, to undertake audits or research depending on the post holders interests.

Person Specification Qualifications Essential
- oFull GMC Registration
- oM.B.B.S. or equivalent
- oAdditional relevant postgraduate qualification
- oS.12(2) approval
- oApproved Clinician or eligible for Welsh Approved Clinician approval
- oComprehensive training and experience in psychiatry.
- oThree years experience at CT level in adult psychiatry.
- oFamiliarity with UK hospital systems and practice.
- oExperience of acting as s12(2) doctor or Responsible Clinician
- oMore than three years experience at CT or higher level in adult psychiatry.
- oCompetence in current assessment and treatment
- oCompetence in risk assessment and management
- oAble to undertake duties to Specialty Doctor level.
- oComputing skills.
- oUnderstanding of relevant clinical, legal and policy issues.
- oUnderstanding of clinical risk management and clinical governance.
- oEvidence of audit with significant impact on practice.
- oEvidence of original and relevant research in speciality.
- oManagement and administrative experience.
