We are seeking a full time Band 6 Occupational Therapist, who is passionate and enthusiastic to join our Primary Care at Home service in Mid Bedfordshire. We are a 7 day service operating between 08.00 to 21.00 hours and successful candidates will work a variety of shifts.

Main duties of the job

This is an exciting opportunity if you are thinking about joining community therapy or gaining new experiences. You will need strong assessment skills with a personalised approach, skills in moving and handling, risk assessing and identifying solutions to reduce risk to provide for the needs and personal outcomes of the individual, their families and carers. You will work closely alongside other members of the MDT to support patients with complex needs within the place they call home.

Experience in the field of adult community services is desirable but a willingness to learn and contribute is more important. All applicants need to hold a degree/diploma in Occupational Therapy and be registered with the HCPC.

Person Specification Education/ Qualification/ Training Essential
  • -BSc Occupational Therapy Degree or Diploma
  • -HCPC Registered Occupational Therapist
  • -Clear record of post graduate experience
Desirable
  • -Significant and relevant post graduate experience
Experience Essential
  • -Experience of a broad range of physical conditions, treatment techniques and intervention
  • -Core rehabilitation skills
  • -Experience of working with adult clients with primarily physical illness or disability
  • -Experiences of working within the community
Desirable
  • -Experience of working within the NHS
Knowledge and Skills Essential
  • -Detailed understanding of a wide range of physical medical conditions
  • -Knowledge and understanding of mental health conditions that affect physical conditions
  • -Excellent communication skills
  • -Ability to lead and motivate others
  • -Provide advice/support on clinical issues to other agencies as required
  • -Good team player and leader
  • -Ability to work autonomously and manage a complex and varied caseload
  • -Ability to analyse results of assessments and arrange/change OT interventions accordingly
  • -Able to demonstrate a commitment to equality and diversity
  • -Work and carry out assessments in clients' homes
  • -Fit and demonstrate the use of equipment
  • -Work with clients, families, carers and other professionals of those that are terminally ill
  • -Supporting clients with severe long term conditions causing distress to themselves and/or their family/carers

  • -Have an understanding of Sepsis and other sudden, potentially critical onset conditions
Other Essential
  • -Able to travel throughout Bedfordshire in a timely and effective way to meet unpredictable service demands
  • -Enthusiasm for working in the community
  • -To be able to work flexibly for benefit of the service - this will mean evenings and weekend working
  • -Have a full UK appropriate drivers licence and access to a car

  • -Good IT skills (Word, Excel, virtual platforms and systmone)
