This is a part-time band 7 Practitioner Psychologist based in the All Wales Adult Cystic Fibrosis Service at Llandough Hospital.

The post holder will work closely CF psychology team and CF MDT to provide direct psychological care to those living with cystic fibrosis and their families to help them manage the psychological aspects of living with CF.

Main duties of the job

The main duties of the job include psychological assessment and intervention for individuals living with cystic fibrosis and their families. This may include support to manage treatments and medical investigations, support to make decisions about treatment options, strategies for coping, end of life care as well as support for other difficulties such as trauma, anxiety and depression.

The role also includes supporting the CF MDT. This may involve consultation, joint working, supervision groups as well as teaching and training.

The post holder will be involved in service development and innovation, as well as research and audit.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Cardiff & Vale University Health Boards All-Wales Cystic Fibrosis Service within the Medical Clinical Board offers an exciting opportunity for aPractitioner Psychologist - Band 7. The post holder will join an established specialist multi-disciplinary service for people living with cystic fibrosis, their families, and care networks. The post holder will provide direct psychological care for thoseliving with cystic fibrosis, and their families.

The post-holder will work under close direction of our senior Cystic Fibrosis Psychologists. You will join a multidisciplinary team and a Psychology Service that has two other psychologyposts. The work includes many clinical aspects including inpatient ward work, preparation for transplantation, ensuring excellence in transitional care, and working on innovative delivery methods for psychology using technology.The post is the main source of psychological expertise for people with cystic fibrosis in Wales.

Part of the role is supporting and working jointly with our specialist multidisciplinary staff. Psychological skills and expertise are highly valued within our services.

There is an opportunitytohelp develop and improvepsychological care within cystic fibrosis - via service development,innovation, consultancy, andskills teaching/training.

Research and audit are highly valued and supported by the Service and there is a tradition of publishing and promoting the psychological elements of our cystic fibrosis work locally, nationally, and internationally.

The post is part-time and would suit someone interested in developing their career applying psychology to medical settings.

It is essential for this post to hold a Postgraduate Doctorate in Clinical Psychology (or equivalent), and to be a HCPC Registered Practitioner Psychologist.

Person Specification Qualifications Essential
  • Good Honours degree in Psychology with eligibility for Graduate Basis for Chartership (GBC) with the BPS.
  • Post-graduate Doctorate in Clinical/Counselling Psychology accredited by the HCPC (or its equivalent for those trained prior to 1996 as accredited by the BPS
  • HCPC registration as a practitioner psychologist.
Desirable
  • Additional training in relevant areas e.g. research, supervision.
Experience Essential
  • A wide range of experience in applying clinical/counselling psychology in the NHS.

  • Relevant additional clinical experience.
  • Experience working within a multi-disciplinary team.

  • Doctoral level knowledge of research design and methodology, including complex multivariate data analysis as practised within clinical/counselling psychology.

  • Willingness to develop knowledge of legislation and its implications for both clinical practice and professional management in relation to mental health/psychological problems and neuropsychology within a medical setting.
  • Participation with CPD as recommended by the BPS.
