An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced CAMHS Practitioner - Mental Health & Substance Misuse, (Band 7) who enjoys working with young people and their families.

Substantial experience of working in community mental health and substance misuse is preferred.

Westminster is a culturally diverse borough and we are keen to provide culturally appropriate services to families. We are looking for a highly experience and enthusiastic systemic therapist who has substantial CAMHS experience and is able to integrate quickly into a busy CAMHS team.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be working across Westminster CAMHS Early Intervention service and Westminster Children's Service Early Help Teams providing consultation, mental health assessments and providing evidenced based mental health treatments to children, young people and their families in Westminster.

They will provide support to frontline children's services in developing their capacity in early identification and intervention with children's mental health need.

Promoting the emotional and mental health of children, young people and their families in the community, facilitating appropriate access to specialist CAMHS and other relevant provision.

Job description Job responsibilities

To provide comprehensive mental health assessments and treatment to children, young people and their families.

Providing evidenced-based treatments to children and young people who are experiencing mental health and substance misuse difficultiesUse Routine Outcome Measures in assessment and treatment of children, young people and their families.

To support the Westminster substance misuse service and Early Help professionals through a variety of consultations and trainings in order to increase their knowledge and skills in identifying the mental health and substance misuse needs of children. These activities would involve telephone and face to face, liaison and consultation. At a more advanced level carrying out joint assessments and directly supporting the interventions of Early Help professionals.

Promoting the emotional and mental health of children and young people through the training of professionals/parents and carers in the early intervention and management of childrens mental health difficulties.

To have an understanding of the graduated approach to support SEND, including use of the Westminster / Kensington & Chelsea SEND Local Offer.

Person Specification Education & Qualifications Essential
  • RMN Trained,
  • NMC Registered
  • Counselling, CBT or Psychotherapy Qualification. Qualification in an Evidenced-Based Treatment
  • HCPC Current Professional Registration
Desirable
  • Training in one or more additional areas of practice especially relevant to complex CAMHS.
Previous Experience Essential
  • Experience of working with a wide variety of client group presenting with the full range of clinical severity around mental health concerns across a range of care settings including outpatient, community, primary care, in-patient and residential care settings.
  • Experience of working within a multidisciplinary Specialist CAMHS team and of proving specialist CAMHS assessment and intervention
  • Experience of delivering evidence based care in a number of cultural contexts.
Desirable
  • Experience of teaching, training and/or supervision
Skills and knowledge Essential
  • Well-developed skills in the ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, complex, highly technical and/or clinically sensitive information including diagnoses and formulations to clients, their families, carers and other professional colleagues both within and outside the NHS.
  • Skills in providing consultation to other professional and nonprofessional groups.
  • Experience of assessing mental health risk and safeguarding concerns.
  • Knowledge of legislation and its implications for both clinical practice and professional management in relation to the client group and mental health and Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND). In particular, knowledge and experience of the Education and Health Care Plan (EHCP) process.
  • Experience of working with mental health and substance misuse (dual diagnosis)
Desirable
  • Knowledge of CAMHS legislation
  • Knowledge and experience of research methodology
