A rare opportunity has arisen to join the Aneurin Bevan University Health Board (ABUHB) stroke occupational therapy team. This exciting and flexible role will be allocated a base within the ABUHB footprint and will span both acute and inpatient rehabilitation settings. The successful candidate will be expected to travel across ABUHB to support stroke service delivery.

Applicants need to be enthusiastic and proactive regarding service evaluation, improvement and development to ensure a high quality occupational therapy service is delivered.

We support all staff with supervision and regular development reviews. The successful applicant will be supported to develop more specialist and advanced clinical and leadership skills.

Main duties of the job

We are looking to appoint an occupational therapist who has post graduate experience of working with people who have had a stroke. They will have knowledge and skills that will support the delivery of a high-quality occupational therapy service for stroke survivors. Candidates will feel passionately about the role of occupational therapy in optimising function and quality of life following a life changing event.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Person Specification Qualifications and Knowledge Essential
  • Degree or Postgraduate Diploma in Occupational Therapy
  • HCPC Registration
  • Some specific training related to clinical area, e.g. perception, cognition, specialist seating
  • STARS core competencies
Desirable
  • Practice Placement Educator course/Apple accredited
  • Bobath Introductory Training course/Introduction to normal movement course
  • Training in the assessment and treatment of cognitive and perceptual impairment
Experience Essential
  • Significant clinical experience relevant to post
  • Supervision experience of junior staff or students
  • Experience of working in a range of clinical settings
Desirable
  • Experience of research or audit
Appitude and Abilities Essential
  • Physically fit to undertake duties as specified in the job description e.g. moving people or equipment, performing hands on treatment
  • Specialist knowledge and application of OT assessments and interventions relevant to the client group - including standardised assessments used in stroke services.
  • Detailed knowledge and application of OT outcome measures
Other Essential
  • Highly effective written and oral communication skills
  • The ability to travel within a geographical area to meet the requirements of the post.
  • Ability to cope with exposure to challenging work environments
