An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Group Psychotherapists and / or Adult Psychotherapists to join our well-established Specialist Psychotherapy Service in City and Hackney. We are looking for an experienced, skilled and enthusiastic mental health professional who have a core training in either: Mental Health Nursing, Occupational Therapy, Psychology or Social Work and who have trained as Group Analyst or Individual Psychodynamic Psychotherapist.

The post holder will need to be prepared for challenging but exciting work, which requires them to have a high level of internal emotional resilience, an excellent understanding of working within the NHS and a desire to support the development of the service. They will be based in Homerton.

The successful applicant will be expected to hold a caseload of patients, providing both group and individual work. They will have a broad range of duties, including assessments, consultation and collaboration with neighbourhoods and local care providers.

The post holder will receive both group and individual supervision. You will also be required to supervise staff both clinically and from a management perspective.

The service as a whole aims to promote excellence and innovation in the provision of care to patients with challenging and complex presentations.

There will be opportunities for continued professional development in line with appraisal and service development.

Main duties of the job

To contribute to assessment of clients referred to the service, and offer both group and 1:1 therapy. This will include online and / or face to face delivery of screening assessments, interventions and specialist assessment and formulation, in line with professional competencies.

To work closely with the locality neighbourhood teams to further develop pathways and facilitate the provision of psychological therapy and psychologically informed care to the local population we serve.

To develop and support the psychosocial work of other staff through teaching, training, supervision and consultation.

To provide specialist advice to NHS and voluntary sector agencies concerning the assessment, treatment and management of service users.

To follow defined practices and procedures under the management and co-ordination of the Operational and Clinical Leads.

To work autonomously within professional guidelines and exercise responsibility for the systematic governance of psychological practice.

To take part in Quality Improvement projects within the team.

To utilise research skills for audit, policy, service development and research.

To participate in CPD and other developmental activities, keeping up to date with relevant psychological research and national guidance (DoH, NICE etc).

Person Specification Education/ Qualification/ Training Essential

• oCore Health professional qualification (Nursing, Social Work, Occupational Therapy, and Psychology) or a demonstrable working knowledge of NHS values, clinical structures in secondary mental health care, referral pathways and the roles of NHS professionals.
• oProfessional registration appropriate to own discipline (e.g. NMC, HCPC).
• oAccredited training as a group psychotherapist or individual psychodynamic psychotherapist.
• oTraining in clinical Supervision & Consultation skills.

Experience Essential

• oExperience of providing specialist psychological assessments and interventions to patients with complex problems and a range of clinical presentations, including complex trauma.
• oExperience of ensuring equality of access and acceptable intervention to diverse populations.
• oExperience of working with a wide variety of patient groups across the whole life course and presenting with the full range of clinical severity.
• oExperience of planning and exercising clinical responsibility for patients' psychological care and treatment within the context of a multidisciplinary care plan.
• oExperience of work in a multicultural setting, including working with interpreters. Experience of developing and delivering culturally acceptable interventions.

Knowledge and Skills Essential

• oSkills in the use of complex methods of psychological assessment including the use of theoretical models to analyze information and to develop formulations upon which to base choice of treatment.
• oKnowledge of the theory and practice of group interventions.
• oUnderstanding of the basic principles underlying psychological therapy and knowledge of clinical applications of the model(s).
• oEvidence of CPD consistent with the requirements of the post.
• oAbility to provide a culturally appropriate and non-stigmatizing service including an awareness of the potential impact of discrimination and disadvantage on mental health.
• oAbility to co-ordinate the recording and reporting of clinical information as required.
• oAbility to support and co-ordinate the work of psychotherapy/psychology colleagues within the team/ Service
• oSkills in the effective communication of highly technical and/or clinically sensitive information to a wide variety of recipients in a range of settings within and outside the NHS, including the ability to produce comprehensive, sensitive and coherent letters, reports and associated documentation, and to overcome barriers to understanding and acceptance.
