An exciting opportunity has arisen foran enthusiastic and motivated Occupational Therapist to be part of our Children's and Young Adults Intensive Support Team for Coventry and Warwickshire. If you are a driven and passionate Occupational Therapist and want to work with Autistic children and young adults and/or children with learning disabilities who have additional mental health needs and are at risk of admission to hospital, then we want to hear from you.

The Children's Intensive Support Team started as a pilot project nearly 5 years ago. The team have been successful in supporting a number of children with autism and mental health needs, improving their outcomes and reducing their need to go into hospital. Due to the success of the team additional funding has been awarded to extend the scope to include young adults up to 25 years of age.

Occupational Therapy is a valued part of the team and this role along with the other Occupational Therapists are an integral part of the specialist multidisciplinary Team. The team works closely with the other services with in CWPT such as Specialist Mental Health Service, Children's Learning Disability Team and the All Age Neurodevelopmental Team. There are also close links with community services including Social Care, Education and the local Community Autism Support Service and Keyworker team hosted by MIND.

Main duties of the job

Significant experience or the willingness to train in the following areas is essential:

• Assessment skills and working holistically with young people and their families
• Multi-agency working and the ability to work alongside the MDT in carrying out interventions and therapy
• Positive Behaviour Support Framework
• A working knowledge of Autism and the ability to support the development of individual Autism profiles
• A working knowledge of the Model of Human Occupation, its application and related assessments is essential, as is the ability to work alongside the MDT in carrying out therapeutic interventions.
• Knowledge and experience of applying a sensory integration frame of reference is also desirable to this role.

Good working knowledge of Autism is essential for this role, as well as evaluating outcomes from assessment and interventions, through using both team and occupational therapy outcome measures.

As an Occupational Therapist you will work with the child/young person or young adult and their family/carers to fully understand their strengths and needs and what is impacting on their emotional well-being and their participation in daily occupations. You will provide advice and recommendations regarding improving their occupational performance in areas of self-care, leisure and education in a person-centred and meaningful way; this will be through goal-setting using a SMART framework; grading and modifying tasks and environments that may be challenging, overwhelming or under stimulating; developing sensory diets based on the individuals needs and sensory profile; contributing to differential diagnoses through specialist assessments and observations.
