A new and exciting Admiral Nurse Service is being developed, in collaboration between Dementia UK and Bedfordshire Community Health Services, to deliver invaluable support across Mid Bedfordshire. Admiral Nurses are specialist dementia nurses who offer expert practical, clinical and emotional support to families involved in the care of a person living with dementia with complex needs.
Main duties of the job
We are looking to recruit an exceptionally skilled Registered Nurse (adult/mental health/learning disability) with a passion for, and significant demonstrable track record of, providing person-centred and relationship-centred dementia care with a strong sense of advocacy and equalities for this client group. Combining direct work with families with supporting the best practice of health and social care professionals, you will call upon your impressive knowledge of bio-psychosocial interventions to improve the experience and quality of life of families affected by dementia.
The role will include seeing carers and families individually, running groups and providing education/ training, as well as balancing a clinical caseload - all whilst setting-up, developing, maintaining and evaluating a new service.
You will receive ongoing support from Dementia UK to maintain and strengthen your clinical expertise as a specialist nurse within dementia care. You will also become part of the wider network of Admiral Nurses and will have the opportunity to access relevant post graduate courses and develop professionally, as informed by the Admiral Nurse Competency Framework.

Person Specification Education/ Qualification/ Training Essential
- Registered General Nurse
- Educated to degree level or equivalent
- Post-registration qualification in a relevant clinical field
- Relevant teaching/mentoring qualification and evidence of teaching skills
- Demonstrable evidence of significant post-registration nursing experience, including in a community setting
- Evidence of and commitment to multi-professional working
- Demonstrate working within a multi-agency environment
- Have a comprehensive understanding of partnership working
