This is a really exciting time to join the High Peak and North Dales Older Adult Community Mental Health Team as Occupational Therapist.

The role is to support the their friendly and supportive team based at Corbar View in Buxton (High Peak). The role is 22.5 hours per week.

You will ideally need to have recent and relevant experience of working with older adults with a range of health conditions, preferably in a community setting, however, this is not essential.

The work will involve managing Occupational Therapy referrals into the team, assessing the occupational needs of older adults with health conditions who live within their local community, designing and implementing person-centred interventions to support them to live their best life.

This will include working with partners across the local community to ensure that we provide the right service at the right time by the right person. Therefore, you will need to have the ability to travel across the geographical area.

Main duties of the job

You will be able to work autonomously managing a diverse caseload and work closely with the multi-disciplinary team, giving you the opportunity to work with CPNs, Psychiatrists, Dementia Support Workers, Psychologists and skilled support staff.

You will utilise a range of standardised Occupational Therapy assessments that are used trust wide and will receive support and training in this.

You will be involved in service development and quality improvement projects as we develop OT pathways across the organisation, build links with our partnership organisations in the community and grow our peer support services as we embed the Community Mental Health Framework across our teams.

You will be part of the wider Occupational Therapy Community in Derbyshire Healthcare, contributing to CPD events, practice development opportunities and workforce development, including the recruitment of staff and the development of our support staff.

Key Responsibilities include:

The provision of specialist OT assessment and intervention-focussed upon clients occupational and functional needs.

Interventions provided will be within the practitioners sphere of competency and within their major skill set, the practitioner is expected to liaise with colleagues who may be more experienced within a particular field as and when required.

Management of a caseload, using OT evidence-based, client-centred principles to assess, plan, implement and evaluate interventions. Assessment and prescription of assistive equipment as required.

Development of collaborative partnership working with our local external partners for example health and social care, voluntary sector, social care.

You will play a pivotal role in this work alongside our partner agencies and people with lived experience.

Supervision and support of fellow OT members of the team.

You will be offered regular management supervision from your service manager and professional/clinical supervision from the Occupational Therapy Lead to support you with this.

Support and develop student placements and newly qualified OTs on our preceptorship programme within the service and across the workforce.

Provide regular student placements/shadowing opportunities. You will liaise with our AHP Practice Learning Facilitator and AHP Preceptorship Facilitator regularly.

Involvement in trust wide OT service development and innovation.

There will be an expectation that the post holder will have knowledge of the Care Programme Approach and to support the duty rota.

Person Specification Knowledge & Experience Essential
  • Post-preceptorship experience as an OT, ideally with some older adult experience
  • Knowledge and application of theoretical models of practice
  • Experience of working with people who have severe and enduring needs
Desirable
  • Experience of working in mental health with a working knowledge of the principals of CPA (Care Programme Approach) where appropriateCare Programme Approach) where appropriate

Qualifications Essential
  • Registered Occupational Therapist
  • Degree / Diploma in Occupational Therapy
  • Training relevant to specialist area

  • Computer literate
  • Ability to apply core OT skills in a mental health setting, including carrying out occupational assessments and setting occupational goals.
  • Ability to manage a complex caseload
  • Ability to work autonomously and set own priorities
  • Comprehensive range of high level verbal and written communication skills
Desirable
  • Ability to respond efficiently to complex information within tight deadlines
