This Lead Art Psychotherapist post offers the opportunity to contribute to the recovery of people with complex mental health problems, within our Rehabilitation services. You will be joining a group of Psychologists and Psychological therapists, who are members of multidisciplinary teams in our Inpatient Rehabilitation Units, and Outreach and Recovery Community Teams. Your skills will help us to expand the capacity for Psychological therapy, and increase the range and choice of therapies available to people using our services.

Main duties of the job

The Lead Art Psychotherapist will :
  • Work as a high-level clinician, providing Specialist Arts Psychotherapy assessments and treatment to adults with a range of psychological and emotional disorders in mental health rehabilitation services.
  • Provide expertise in all aspects of Arts Psychotherapy to patients, carers and significant others.
  • Contribute to the provision of the Psychological Therapy Services within adult mental health rehabilitation services.
  • Work as part of the multidisciplinary team, carrying a caseload of patients.
  • Receive regular supervision in line with Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board (CTMUHB) policies and be responsible for management of own caseload and ensuring high standards of care are maintained in line with CTMUHB policies and professional codes of practice.
  • Provide supervision and consultancy to other mental health professionals and be involved in the development of Psychological Therapy provision within the locality as appropriate.
  • Provide supervision for Art Psychotherapy trainees on placement from the University of South Wales, and maintain placement relationships with the university.

Person Specification Professional Registration Essential
  • Registration with Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC)
  • Membership of the British Association of Art Therapists
Experience Essential
  • Experience of working with adults in a mental health setting
  • Experience of working with people with severe mental health problems
  • Experience of group facilitation
  • Experience of managing competing demands within time constraints
  • Experience of undertaking risk assessments
  • Experience of taking part in research projects
  • Experience of completing safeguarding processes within therapeutic work
Qualifications Essential
  • Masters level training in Art Psychotherapy
  • Additional training in alternative therapeutic qualifications e.g. ACT / CBT / DBT
  • Other qualifications in the field of Psychology
Knowledge Essential
  • Awareness of research processes and research governance
  • Knowledge of a range of evidence based Art Psychotherapy interventions
  • Awareness of other therapeutic approaches and application
  • Awareness of safeguarding principles
  • Understanding of research about mental health and illness and interventions to promote mental health
  • Awareness of importance of continuous professional development
  • Aware of relevant guidance and policy
  • Aware of data protection and confidentiality issues
Other Essential
  • Able and willing to travel independently through the CTM area in a timely manner
  • Satisfactory DBS check
