An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Occupational Therapist (Band 5) to join Hyndburn and Rossendale Community Mental Health Team.

The unique role of occupational therapy is highly valued within the team, providing specialist occupational therapy assessment, formulation and intervention to those with complex occupational, functional or vocational needs. The role will also involve the provision of support and advice to the multi-disciplinary team through consultancy, to ensure service users occupational needs are considered and met.

We are looking to recruit an occupational therapist that has a keen interest and a passion for occupational therapy in mental health. You will have excellent communication skills, good clinical reasoning and an understanding of the occupational therapy role within recovery.

You will receive regular supervision, access to CPD opportunities and be part of a supportive occupational therapy network. Additionally, there will be the potential for you to further develop other skills and assist with service developments, including an evolving OT group-work project.

Main duties of the job

To provide routine occupational therapy interventions in order to maintain, restore or create a match beneficial to the individual between the abilities of the person, the demands of her/his occupations in the areas of self- care, productivity and leisure and the demands of the environment. (adapted from Creek 2008). The postholder will be required to work alongside other members of the MDT, as well as being able to work alone as an autonomous professional. They will be supported through regular contact and supervision from senior therapist/s to consolidate and develop their skills. As a band 5 occupational therapist, they will be expected have some responsibility for the occupational therapy plans of clients, but are not the responsible therapist in assessing and providing occupational therapy plans for people with very complex occupational needs.

After a period of preceptorship, and following approved training, the band 5 occupational therapist provides fieldwork placements for occupational therapy undergraduates. As confidence and experience grows, the therapist becomes increasingly responsible for the supervision of support staff, and for the delegation of occupational therapy tasks.

The post holder will as an integral part of the team working core hours, Monday to Friday. There may be an occasional need to be flexible to meet individual service user need e.g. working early evenings.
