An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Single Point of Access (SPA), based at Falcon House at St James' Hospital, Portsmouth on a full time basis.

We are currently seeking to recruit a motivated, enthusiastic and organised Mental Health Practitioner who is keen on working with children/young people with mental health needs and their families as part of our QNCC excellent Accredited CAMHS service in Portsmouth.

We are looking for a dedicated professional who shares our Trust's HEART values and is committed to working collaboratively as part of our Multi-Disciplinary Team delivering a high standard of patient-centred care. We would welcome professionals from a variety of professional backgrounds including nursing, social work and AHP. For a new qualified candidate if successful in interview could be offered a developmental role which would commence as a band 5 with progression to a band 6 within a year of employment upon assessment and support through the CAMHS academy framework.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will join our dynamic Single Point of Access (SPA) team. They will be expected to deliver high quality evidence based therapeutic assessment and intervention to children and young people. As such the successful candidate will evidence and demonstrate a high level of skill in treating clients who are presenting with complex social and mental health needs.

Our (SPA) duty team operates Monday- Friday 9-5. This is one of the core aspects of the role, as part of this role you will be expected to respond to urgent and non urgent calls from clients, parent/carers and professionals. You will also be expected to offer urgent face to face assessments as well as telephone triage of new referrals into the service.

As part of the role you will be expected to offer a mental health perspective to the multi-agency teams through attendance of network meetings, delivery of consultation and participation in multi disciplinary meetings.

Therapeutic assessment is a key aspect of this role. The successful candidate will demonstrate a high level of skill in completing therapeutic assessment of children within the context of their family where families have severe, multi-complex long standing difficulties.

The successful candidate will be passionate about working as a team demonstrating the ability to work alongside and support others in challenging and high pressured environments.

Excellent organisational and time management skills are essential.

*To support staff within the wider service and partner agencies from a specialist mental health perspective.

*To exercise full responsibility and autonomy for assessments, formulation of systemic treatment, reviews and discharge summaries and be accountable for professional actions and policies.

*To participate in the development of a high quality, responsive service for children, young people and their families/carers/friends where appropriate. This may include professionally advising and managing those aspects of the service where psychiatric and/or organisational issues need addressing

*To share responsibility for and to provide a Specialist Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service within Specialist CAMHS.

*To be responsible for delivering specialist child and adolescent psychiatry in a way that is integrated with the work of other disciplines within the team and wider Children and Family Service.

*To be responsible where appropriate to liaise closely and integrate specialist child and adolescent psychiatry with the work of other agencies.

*To provide guidance and consultation to other professionals, contributing directly to individual programmes of care.

*To manage referrals and to assess the needs of the referred child or young person and to develop, implement and evaluate appropriate interventions

Person Specification Qualifications Essential

• Nationally recognised core qualification i.e. RN, RMN, Social work, Psychology, Occupational Therapist, CBT Therapist
• Professional Qualification at first degree level or equivalent
• Postgraduate level of study/degree relevant to discipline or equivalent relevant experience
• Evidence of post registration courses / CPD evidence at a post grad level (not necessarily masters level)

Experience Essential

• Post qualifying experience equivalent as a specialist mental health worker within a mental health setting
• Experience of working assertively with a hard to engage client group
• Skills in being able to communicate effectively, orally and in writing complex, highly technical and or clinically sensitive information to clients their families or carers and other professionals colleagues both within and outside the NHS
• Ability to provide a therapeutic environment which contributes to children's healthy development
• Ability to identify and employ mechanisms of clinical governance as appropriate to support and maintain clinical practice
• Evidence of continuing professional development as required by the relevant professional body.

Desirable

• Experience of specialist mental health assessment and treatment of children and adolescents and their families/carers where appropriate as a full member of a multi disciplinary team located in community, primary care, outpatients or inpatient settings
• Experience of working with a wide variety of children, adolescents and their families/carers across the whole range and presenting problems that reflect the full range of clinical severity.
• Experience of teaching and or training other professionals
• Experience of group work
