Led by Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust and in partnership with YMCA Downslink, Sussex Community NHS Foundation Trust and Southdown, Brighton and Hove Wellbeing Service provides a community-based range of evidence based therapeutic and clinical interventions to support children, young people and adults with mild to moderate mental health needs. Our service is based in the community and located primarily within SPFT venues and GP Practices. We receive referrals from a number of routes including self-referrals and by General Practitioners, working closely with community and secondary care Mental Health services.

Main duties of the job

We are recruiting a Psychotherapeutic Counsellorto join our expanding IAPT service.

As an improving access to Psychological Therapies service (IAPT) we offer a full range of IAPT compliant therapies and job roles. As a service we support people presenting with mild to moderate anxiety disorders and depression.

As a Psychotherapeutic Counsellor working within the service your main responsibilities will include offering clinical assessments to service users as well as evidence based IAPT interventions for clients presenting with depression.

Job description Job responsibilities

This role will include Face to face sessions, remote video and telephone sessions.

As a qualified and experienced counsellor you will be expected to deliver counselling to clients presenting with Depression and work autonomously within the service.

Experience of working within the NHS and Primary Care Mental Health services desirable.

Experience of supervision or training within an IAPT compliant modality such as CFD (counselling for depression), Behavioural couples therapy, DIT, IPT, EMDR, LTC are desirable.

Person Specification Qualifications & Training Essential
  • Recognised/accredited postgraduate level training in a psychological therapy as specified in one of the Appendices
  • Professionally Accreditated/Registered as specified in the same Appendix
Experience Essential
  • Post-qualification/accreditation experience in the delivery of specialist psychological therapy (assessment, formulation and treatment) across a range of presenting problems
  • Demonstrable competence in the delivery of a psychological therapy and a track record of delivering positive outcomes in this therapy
  • Ability to manage own caseload and time
  • Demonstrates high standards in written communication
  • Knowledge of the theory and practice of specialist psychological therapy (as supported by IAPT services: Client centered, Psychodynamic, Integrative (including previous two models), EMDR, IPT etc)
  • Experience of working with the particular client group served by the team/service
Desirable
  • Experience of working in Primary Care setting
  • Experience of working in an IAPT service
  • Experience of delivering Group interventions
  • Training in another IAPT compliant modality such as CFD, EMDR, IPT, DIT or MBCT
