Main duties of the job

The Trust is seeking a Specialist to join dementia inpatient wards at the Forget Me Not Unit, Worthing. This vacancy has arisen due to a voluntary resignation and the Trust regards this as an opportune moment to develop the functioning of the team. The Trust has redesigned Dementia inpatient services modernising and developing the functioning of the teams.

This post is an example of the commitment of the Trust to not only ensure career development for our SAS workforce but to also develop better provision develop better medical provision and capacity for the 3 wards and the families and carers using the service. The filling of this post adds to the medical establishment of the ward providing both consultant and specialist grade input to each of the dementia wards.

About us

The Coastal area of West Sussex comprises of adult and dementia community and in-patient services. The community dementia services in Coastal include Dementia Assessment Services and Specialist older adult mental health services.

The post holder would have interactions with other dementia services across West Sussex and would be expected to form a working relationship with colleagues in these services, both statutory and non statutory.

The Trust has strong links with Brighton and Sussex Medical School and regularly hosts students of various disciplines.

Job description Job responsibilities

The post holder will work across the 3 Wards.There is additional medical support on the wards. Sage ward has one FY1 doctor and other two wards will have 1 Physician associate each to provide support with medical and psychiatric care.

The post holder would be working with patients on the 3 wards as part of the multi-disciplinary team.

The wards are single sex 10 bedded accepting adults with dementia. The post holder will be expected to join MDT huddles daily, to review new admissions and support the Consultant in reviewing patients. The post holder will support junior medical cover ( 2 Physician associates and one FY1 doctor) to manage physical health care of patients on the ward.

  • MB BS or equivalent medical qualification.
Desirable
  • Qualification or higher degree in medical education, clinical research or management
  • MRCPsych
  • Additional clinical qualifications.
ELIGIBILITY Essential
  • Fully registered with the GMC with a licence to practise at the time of appointment
  • Completed a minimum of 12 years' medical work (either continuous period or in aggregate) since obtaining a primary medical qualification
  • A minimum of six years should have been in a relevant specialty in the Specialty Doctor and/or closed SAS grades. Equivalent years' experience in a relevant specialty from other medical grades including from overseas will also be accepted.
  • To be section 12(2) MHA 1983 approved (or achieve within 6 months of appointment), if not have Approved Clinician (AC) status/approval and be on the AC register.
Desirable
  • In good standing with GMC with respect to warning and conditions on practice
